About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Principal Telecommunications Engineer & Team Lead to join our Technology Systems team in India, supporting projects across the APAC region. This role combines technical leadership with team leadership responsibilities, overseeing the delivery of advanced ICT and Telecommunications systems across diverse sectors including healthcare, aviation, transport, commercial, data centers, and mixed-use developments.
As a Principal Engineer, you will lead the design, coordination, and delivery of complex ICT systems, working closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders from concept through to handover. You will provide technical leadership in structured cabling, telecommunications infrastructure, ICT networks, smart buildings, and digital infrastructure aligned with Australian and international standards including BICSI, TIA, ISO/IEC, and AS/NZS.
In addition, as Team Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing the Technology Systems team in India, ensuring efficient delivery of project outcomes while maintaining close alignment with the Australian leadership team. This includes managing team performance, workload planning, quality assurance, and fostering a high-performing and collaborative team environment.
Key Responsibilities
ICT & Telecommunications Design
- Lead the planning, design, and delivery of ICT and telecommunications systems across medium to large-scale projects
- Develop structured cabling designs (copper and fibre) in accordance with BICSI, TIA, ISO/IEC, and AS/NZS standards
- Deliver passive and active network infrastructure designs including LAN, WAN, WLAN and converged IP networks
- Design ICT infrastructure including pathways, containment, equipment rooms, backbone and horizontal cabling, rack layouts, and labelling systems
- Develop resilient and scalable network architectures considering redundancy, uptime, and operational requirements
- Coordinate ICT systems integration with MEP, AV, BMS, security, and other building systems
Design Management & Documentation
- Prepare technical specifications, reports, schematics, drawings, and tender documentation
- Review contractor submissions, shop drawings, and RFIs during construction stages
- Ensure compliance with project requirements, quality standards, and relevant authority regulations
- Support testing, commissioning, and handover activities
- Manage project timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder coordination across multiple projects
Team Lead Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the Technology Systems team in India, ensuring alignment with business objectives and delivery standards
- Plan, allocate, and distribute workload across the team to optimise efficiency and utilisation
- Oversee the quality and timely delivery of project outputs and technical deliverables
- Manage day-to-day team operations, ensuring effective coordination across projects
- Provide mentoring, technical guidance, and professional development for team members
- Conduct regular Thrive/performance conversations and support career development planning
- Monitor team performance and provide structured feedback and support continuous improvement
- Act as the key liaison with the Australian management team, providing updates on team capacity, performance, and delivery status
- Prepare and present progress reports to leadership, highlighting risks, opportunities, and resourcing needs
- Participate in leadership and management meetings, contributing to strategic initiatives and team growth
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance culture aligned with WSP values
Leadership & Client Engagement
- Act as ICT discipline lead on projects and provide guidance to engineers and designers
- Engage with clients, consultants, contractors, and vendors to understand project requirements
- Support business development initiatives, proposals, and client presentations
- Contribute to continuous improvement of technical standards and delivery processes
Qualifications & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical, Electronics, or related Engineering discipline
- 10+ years’ experience in ICT/building technology consultancy or systems integration
- Team lead experience (highly desirable)
- BICSI RCDD (preferred)
- Cisco or other relevant certifications (desirable)
- Proven experience supporting Australian/APAC projects
