Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)
Job Description
As a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) at Recuro Health, you will help lead the design, development, and maintenance of scalable automation testing framework for our telehealth platform. You must adhere to and help maintain high engineering quality standards and also be able to mentor team members of QA engineers. Manual testing will still be required as needed and will decrease as the automation coverage increases. You will play a critical role in improving product quality, accelerating release cycles, and embedding testing best practices across our engineering teams.
· Design, build, and maintain robust, scalable, and maintainable test automation frameworks using Playwright, Maestro, Postman and others.
· Develop automated UI, API, and integration tests to ensure high product quality.
· Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous testing.
· Mentor less senior QA engineers and grow their automation skills by conducting code reviews and fostering a culture of quality across the engineering organization.
· Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to deeply understand requirements, acceptance criteria, and system architecture.
· Iterate on standards for test case design, automation code quality, and defect management processes.
· Identify, document, and track defects; drive root-cause analysis and collaborate with engineering to resolve systemic quality issues.
· Support a development team by executing manual test scenarios, validating new features, regression testing, and collaborating on rapid defect resolution and root cause analysis.
· Evaluate and recommend new tools, technologies, and processes to improve testing efficiency.
· Support existing QA workflows as we build out our automation suite.
Core Competencies:
· Technical Leadership: Proven ability to architect and lead the development of test automation systems. Ability to make sound technical decisions and drive adoption across teams.
· Analytical & Systems Thinking: Ability to analyze complex distributed systems and translate architectural understanding into robust, targeted test strategies and automation coverage.
· Mentorship: A passion for growing engineers' skills through coaching, code reviews, and creating a culture of continuous improvement.
· Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to influence engineering culture, align stakeholders, and clearly report on quality health.
· Collaboration: Strong cross-functional partnership skills with developers, product managers, DevOps, and architects to embed quality at every stage of delivery.
· Adaptability: Comfortable leading quality initiatives in a fast-paced, evolving, startup environment with shifting product priorities and demands for attention.
Qualifications:
· 5+ years of experience in software quality engineering with at least 1 year in a senior SDET role.
· Expertise in building and scaling test automation frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, Appium, or similar).
· Expertise in API testing using tools such as Postman, RestAssured, or equivalent.
· Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, CircleCI).
· Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and quality practices within iterative delivery cycles.
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and architectural thinking skills.
· Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
· Experience with performance and load testing tools (e.g., k6, JMeter, Gatling).
Desirable Qualifications:
· Familiarity with security testing practices and tools relevant to web and healthcare applications.
· Understanding telehealth and healthcare software applications and workflows.
· Knowledge of Healthcare Technology Standards and Regulations (HIPAA, FHIR, etc.).
Location Preferences:
· This role is open to Remote, but our preference for an ideal candidate would be hybrid with at least 2 days in office each week to work directly with our Engineering Team, and QA engineers in our Minneapolis Office.
