Position Overview

Corning is seeking an Industrial Engineer to help shape how our Sullivan Park research campus uses its laboratory space. In this role, you'll apply Lean and industrial engineering principles to improve lab workflows, space utilization, and operational efficiency — directly enabling the R&D work that drives Corning's innovation pipeline. This is a strong opportunity for an early-career engineer to build cross-functional experience in a dynamic, science-driven environment.

Primary Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Partner with project managers and lab customers to develop conceptual lab layouts, workflow plans, and process flow solutions
  • Lead lab space utilization activities — including evaluations, suitability assessments, occupancy coordination, and exit/transfer processes
  • Drive 5S and continuous improvement initiatives, including quarterly audits, metrics tracking, and sustaining standards across the campus
  • Maintain space and suitability planning databases and translate findings into clear recommendations for stakeholders
  • Build strong working relationships with internal customers to understand lab processes and deliver responsive, customer-focused solutions

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • 0–3 years of experience applying Lean and engineering principles in a research, laboratory, or manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge of laboratory infrastructure, utilities, and equipment needs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio)
  • Experience working with SharePoint, shared drives, and database systems
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities across cross-functional teams

Desired Qualifications

  • Lean / Performance Excellence certification (Green Belt or Black Belt)
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement tools and methodologies
  • Experience with CMMS platforms (e.g., Maximo)
  • AutoCAD proficiency

Work Conditions

  • Travel: Less than 5%, primarily for conferences or internal customer support
  • Schedule: Standard Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

This position does not support immigration sponsorship.

The range for this position is $68,958.00 - $94,817.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
