Job Description
The Investigator investigates reports of potential abuse, neglect, and exploitation of individuals served. Investigations may occur in a variety of settings and are completed in accordance with Elwyn Policy and applicable licensing and/or payor requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts interviews concerning the allegation of abuse, neglect, or exploitation as assigned
- Review of documents, regulations and/or internal policies that may be relevant to the investigation
- Collect, secure, manage and organize all evidence pertinent to the investigation
- Uses critical thinking and sound judgement to analyze evidence related to the allegation
- Writes comprehensive reports using proper grammar and spelling summarizing the facts obtained during the investigations as to whether abuse, neglect, or exploitation occurred
- Communicates professionally and appropriately, via all communication mediums
- Promotes and demonstrates appropriate respect for cultural diversity
- Behaves ethically and adheres to Elwyn’s Code of Conduct
- Understands and adheres to laws protecting the privacy of information relating to individuals served including HIPAA and FERPA
- Maintains the confidentiality of investigation-related information
- Participates in case conferences and meetings with supervisors and peers regarding case progress and disposition
- Participates in continuous training
- Attends work regularly in accordance with agency leave policy
- Works occasionally outside of traditional working hours (8 am – 5 pm), which may include evening hours, weekends, and holidays, as required for case-related functions and/or as required by management
- Travels using personal vehicle
- Follows timelines and meet deadlines of all deliverables
- Communicates with all stakeholders (internal and external) clearly and professionally
- Works with, understands, and complies with terms and conditions of collective bargaining agreements (CBA) within a unionized environment with tasks including but not limited to adherence to scheduling procedures, processing transfers and promotions, administering disciplinary actions, adjudicating grievances, where appropriate, etc.
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), crisis intervention and medication administration using agency-trained protocols
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree is required. Prior experience conducting healthcare or human services investigations preferred
- Be self-directed, able to work independently and highly motivated, and also function as part of a team.
- Strong English written and verbal communication skills
- Able to learn and independently use internal and external investigation reporting and management systems
- Able to work in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment
- Able to manage multiple priorities, work efficiently under pressure and consistently meet deadlines
- Detail-oriented, dependable and responsible
- Knowledge of investigation policies, procedures, and standards
- Knowledge of applicable laws relating to provider investigations and protective services
- Knowledge of the population Elwyn serves including adults and children with behavioral health issues, and intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities
- Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and skills
- Knowledge of differing cultures/ethnic groups and values
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
- Strong skills in effective verbal and written communication including email, telephone, and video conferencing
- Ability to independently write comprehensive reports in English with proper grammar and spelling
- Adhere to the elements of objectivity, speed, and thoroughness with conducting investigations
- Ability to present findings objectively
- Ability to work in a potentially emotion-filled environment
- Ability to operate a computer, tablet, or laptop device, smart phone, and various software packages, including Microsoft Office
- Ability to operate standard office equipment including fax and copy machines
- Ability to conduct interviews in a variety of locations, licensed facilities, group homes and community settings
- Ability to work in environments where individuals with behavioral issues may be present
- Willingness to travel
- Willingness to work outside of normal working hours (8 am – 5 pm)
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university
- Certified Investigator credentials or have the ability to achieve certification within 12 months of hire
- Advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook. Knowledge of PowerPoint and Microsoft Windows functionality
- Previous experience working within a unionized workforce preferred
- Non-profit human service experience highly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage and prioritize multiple, often competing, priorities
- Demonstrated strong attention to detail
- Demonstrated strong time management and organizational skills
- Demonstrated excellent judgment with the ability to independently solve problems and make decisions with little or no need for direct supervision
- Demonstrated ability to anticipate future needed changes or identify problem areas and take effective actions
- Must be able to perform CPR and crisis intervention using agency-trained protocols
- Must possess excellent customer interaction, collaboration, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated (basic, intermediate, advanced) experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; Access, Publisher and report-writer experience preferred
- (Experience using/knowledge of ) Electronic Health Record (EHR) / Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
- Must possess a current, valid driver’s license in the state of residence, have a minimum of two (2) years of driving experience within the United States, and have an acceptable driving record, which will be assessed through a review of the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) record, in accordance with Elwyn’s Vehicle Operation and Driver’s Code Policy 905. For individuals licensed for more than two (2) years, the driving record will be reviewed for acceptability based on the past three (3) years. Additionally, employees required to drive as part of their job may need to successfully complete and pass an Elwyn Road Test before being authorized to drive.
