The Global Customs Compliance Manager will lead the customs compliance program and strategy for GE Vernova Hitachi (GVH) and Global Nuclear Fuels (GNF), ensuring full adherence to international trade regulations across all global operations. As a key partner to Supply Chain, Logistics, Procurement, Legal, and Finance, you will be responsible for mitigating trade compliance risks, optimizing customs processes, and driving operational efficiency. In this role, you will lead continuous improvement initiatives to minimize duty exposure and support business growth in a rapidly evolving global trade environment. Success in this position requires deep technical expertise in customs regulations, advanced analytical capabilities, and the ability to navigate complex international requirements while effectively balancing stringent compliance obligations with dynamic business objectives.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Governance

  • Set Global Strategy: Define and execute the global customs strategy, setting monitoring plans and ensuring alignment with GE Vernova’s organizational goals and Enterprise Standards (KYS, ASP, Customs, Export Control).
  • Operational Excellence: Lead the Nuclear Customs Organization and International Shipment program, driving global compliance and operational excellence through standardized operating procedures (OPs, CPs, WIs).
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities to streamline customs processes, enhance efficiency, and reduce duty exposure and operational costs.
  • Strategic Advisory: Act as the primary advisor to internal stakeholders (Sourcing, Finance, Project Management) regarding trade compliance risks, opportunities, and emerging regulatory developments.

Compliance & Regulatory Management

  • Regulatory Adherence: Ensure 100% compliance with international, national, and regional regulations (e.g., CBP, NRC, DOC).
  • Risk Mitigation: Conduct comprehensive audits, risk assessments, and internal reviews. Oversee investigations and manage voluntary disclosures, developing corrective action plans to close compliance gaps.
  • Trade Programs: Manage participation in trusted trader programs such as AEO and CTPAT.
  • Data Accuracy: Ensure the integrity of classification, country of origin, valuation, and recordkeeping, overseeing accurate and timely customs declarations (e.g., ITN filings, temporary imports).

Stakeholder & Vendor Management

  • Third-Party Oversight: Lead the selection and management of regional agents, customs brokers, and freight forwarders. Conduct price negotiations, evaluate site-level agent usage, and ensure consistent compliance standards.
  • Strategic Escalation Point: Serve as the central point of contact for complex trade escalations between Strategic Partners and GE business units.
  • Internal Education: Lead customs compliance training programs and serve as the subject matter expert, providing guidance to cross-functional teams to foster a culture of compliance.

Business Support & Integration

  • Supply Chain Support: Assess the trade compliance implications of new product launches, business expansions, and M&A activity, providing strategic recommendations to support seamless supply chain integration.
  • Performance Metrics: Establish and report on periodic metrics tracking duty savings, risk mitigation, and value creation for executive leadership review.
  • Global Collaboration: Represent the business in internal and external forums regarding international shipments and customs matters

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Finance, Customs & Trade, or a related field from an accredited university or college.
  • Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) certification
  • Extensive knowledge of Import/Export regulations, foreign customs requirements, trade finance programs, free trade agreements and International Logistics/Shipping.
    • 5-10 years’ experience of progressive experience in customs compliance, global trade compliance, import/export operations, and/or international logistics.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Technical Compliance Expertise: Deep knowledge of global customs regulations, including tariff classification, customs valuation, country of origin requirements, and entry processes. Expert understanding of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), duty savings programs, and customs special procedures.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong proficiency in U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations, CFR Title 15, CFR Title 19, export control regulations, and demonstrated experience with customs requirements in key global markets.
  • Compliance & Risk Management: Proven track record in highly regulated industries. Experience conducting compliance audits, performing risk assessments, and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Strategic Execution: Demonstrated ability to translate complex customs strategies into executable plans, operational guidelines, and performance metrics.
  • Systems Proficiency: Proficiency with trade management systems (e.g., ACE) and Microsoft Office. Experience with ERP platforms is highly desirable.
  • Global Leadership: Significant experience managing customs programs across multiple countries and regions, with the ability to lead and influence diverse, global teams.
  • Change Management: Proven ability to drive process improvements that are simple, fast, and compliant.
  • Communication & Influence: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, bilingual English and Spanish, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization and build strong networks with external agencies, brokers, and forwarders.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and project management skills; ability to interpret complex regulations and translate them into practical, operational controls.
  • Agility: Ability to work independently, manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, and make accurate, timely decisions based on sound judgment and experience.
  • Collaboration: A team-oriented mindset with the interpersonal skills necessary to thrive in a diverse, global organization.

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $98,400.00 and $164,000.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.

 

 

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
