Primary Purpose
The Maintenance Manager is accountable for the strategic direction, execution, and overall performance of the plant’s maintenance and reliability function, ensuring the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of all manufacturing assets. The role leads a multi-disciplined maintenance organization and owns the integration of maintenance execution, planning and scheduling, and reliability engineering to deliver measurable improvements in equipment availability, operational reliability, and production performance.
This position is responsible for establishing and enforcing a structured, data-driven maintenance and reliability system, including work management processes, asset strategies, and performance metrics. The Maintenance Manager is directly accountable for achieving defined operational, reliability, and cost targets through effective leadership, resource allocation, and prioritization of maintenance and capital activities. Through strong leadership and partnership with Operations and Engineering, the role ensures alignment of maintenance strategy with plant objectives and drives sustainable improvements in asset performance, cost efficiency, and long-term operational capability.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Maintenance Work Management, Planning, & Asset Reliability:
• Own and lead the site maintenance and reliability strategy, including preventive (PM), predictive (PdM), and corrective maintenance programs
• Direct the maintenance work management system, ensuring disciplined execution of planned, scheduled, and reactive work aligned to production priorities
• Ensure equipment reliability and availability to meet production targets, minimizing unplanned downtime through effective prioritization and resource allocation
• Drive maintenance process performance, including backlog management, schedule compliance, PM/PdM execution, and work order quality
• Lead reliability improvement efforts, including root cause failure analysis (RCFA), defect elimination, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Accountable for overall asset performance, including reduction of equipment failures and development of risk-based asset strategies for critical equipment
Team Leadership and Management:
- Lead and develop a structured maintenance organization including Supervisors, Planner/Scheduler, Reliability roles, Maintenance technicians, and contractors.
- Build team capability and deliver performance feedback and conduct performance reviews as appropriate, training programs, and ensure team adherence to safety, quality, and operational standards.
- Establish clear accountability across execution, planning, and reliability functions
Budget and Resource Management:
- Develop and manage the maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective solutions and alignment with financial targets
- Monitor and control maintenance expenditures, proactively managing costs to remain within approved budget
- Drive cost efficiency through improved planning, reliability improvements, and effective resource utilization
- Oversee procurement of maintenance materials, tools, equipment, and spare parts to support operational needs
- Manage inventory and critical spare parts to ensure equipment reliability and minimize downtime
Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving:
- Lead the investigation and resolution of critical equipment failures and performance issues.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to identify root causes of breakdowns and implement long-term solutions.
Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health, safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Promote a culture of safety, ensuring that all team members follow established safety procedures and guidelines.
- Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments related to maintenance operations.
- Lead incident investigations and ensure effective, sustainable corrective actions are implemented
KPI Ownership, Documentation, & Performance Management
- Own and drive performance of key maintenance KPIs
- Analyze KPI trends and implement corrective actions to drive continuous improvement
- Hold team accountable to defined performance targets
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, maintenance logs, and equipment performance.
- Provide regular reports on maintenance performance, key performance indicators (KPIs), and progress towards maintenance goals.
Capital Planning and Project Execution
- Champion maintenance-led improvement projects, ensuring initiatives focused on reliability, defect elimination, and cost reduction are identified, developed, and executed
- Provide technical and maintenance resource support for plant capital projects, ensuring maintenance requirements, reliability considerations, and long-term asset performance are incorporated
- Lead development of capital plans aligned with asset reliability and plant strategy
- Prioritize capital investments based on risk, reliability impact, and return on investment
- Ensure successful execution of projects (capital & maintenance led) within scope, schedule, and budget

- Follow guidelines under the Delegation of Authority (DOA).
- Part procurement authorization, vendor and contractor management, R&M repair authorizations, utilities process authorization, capital request development, shop tool purchases, SOP authorization.
- Assignment of tasks to team members.
- Capital-related purchase authority may vary with approved Request for Capital Expenditure (CEA)
- Schedule project tasks and priority as needed to complete the projects

Education & Experience Qualifications
Minimum:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering.
• 7 years of experience in maintenance management, preferably in a steel manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.
• 3 years of experience in a supervisory or people management role.
Preferred:
• 10 years of experience in maintenance management, preferably in a steel manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.
• 5 years of experience in a supervisory or people management role.
• Management experience for collective bargaining team

Salary Range: The expected pay scale for this role is $138,330.00 - $157,500.00 annually, depending on experience, skill set, and qualifications. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for a targeted annual bonus of 20%, as well as health and welfare benefits and a 401(k) match, in accordance with BlueScope policies.
