What You Will Do
The Ohio Department of Job & Family Services (ODJFS) is strengthening its enterprise data capabilities and is seeking a dedicated Oracle & Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Database Administrator to support our expanding database environment. This is a unique opportunity to help shape and optimize the agency's mission-critical data platforms, working alongside experienced database professionals across multiple technologies.
This role is ideal for someone with strong foundational Oracle and OCI expertise and a passion for high-quality database design, reliability, and security. You will play a key role in designing and supporting resilient database solutions, implementing best-practice security controls, and collaborating with technical teams as we continue to modernize our data footprint.
You will work closely with fellow database administrators across several platforms, including Oracle Database, Microsoft SQL Server, IBM Information Management System (IMS), and IBM Db2, ensuring ODJFS applications are supported by stable, secure, and well-architected data environments.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Manage Oracle database environments including Oracle Data Guard Broker, Oracle Golden Gate processes, and Oracle Cloud Interface.
- Virtualize infrastructure running various Unix, Linux, and AIX operating systems.
- Design, develop, and integrate highly complex database systems for internal and external users/clients.
- Plan and implement capacity and resource expansion to ensure scalability of databases.
- Ensure best practices in database planning, design, configuration, performance, and resilience.
- Evaluate and propose design and process improvements to achieve performance and cost optimization.
- Implement effective risk management controls and own adherence to all compliance related items (exceptions, waivers, risks, technical compliance, and access control).
- Plan and participate in disaster recovery exercises, system failover planning, and testing.
- Lead incident resolution efforts and engage appropriate resources to complete corrective actions as quickly as possible.
- Manage root cause analysis and problem management activities for continuous improvement initiatives, incident reduction, and performance enhancements.
- Provide technical expertise in the development of technical, structural, and organizational specifications. Determine appropriateness of data for storage and optimum storage organization.
- Create, document, and implement standards and/or complex modeling to monitor and enhance the capacity and performance of the database. Code complex programs and derive logical processes on technical platforms.
- Provide technical leadership that fosters database innovation and champions automation.
Schedule: Full-time.
Hours: Standard workdays are Monday through Friday. Hours are between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Location: This position will be headquartered in an ODJFS Facility in one of the following cities - Columbus, Akron, or Dayton. This determination will take into account the proximity to the applicant's home address.

The ideal candidate, at minimum, must have the following:
OPTION 1
- 60 months of combined work experience in any combination of the following: designing and implementing high availability solutions, performing solutions design, providing technical Tier III database support, developing project plans with project manager or recommending approach through defining tasks and/or leading meetings relating to design, implementation, operation and ongoing maintenance of databases systems;
- AND 12 months of work experience in the primary technology specified by the agency in the position description & job posting (Oracle).
OPTION 2
- Completion of associate core program in computer science or information systems;
- AND 42 months combined work experience in any combination of the following: designing and implementing high availability solutions, performing solutions design, providing technical Tier III database support, developing project plans with project manager or recommending approach through defining tasks and/or leading meetings relating to design, implementation, operation and ongoing maintenance of databases systems;
- AND 12 months work experience in the primary technology specified by the agency in the position description & job posting (Oracle).
OPTION 3
- Completion of undergraduate core program in computer science or information systems;
- AND 36 months combined work experience in any combination of the following: designing and implementing high availability solutions, performing solutions design, providing technical Tier III database support, developing project plans with project manager or recommending approach through defining tasks and/or leading meetings relating to design, implementation, operation and ongoing maintenance of databases systems;
- 12 months work experience in the primary technology specified by the agency in the position description & job posting (Oracle).
OPTION 4
- Equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment noted above.

Pay Information
This position is in the State of Ohio’s OCSEA Pay Schedule, Pay Range 36. Unless required by legislation or union contract, starting salary will be the minimum salary of that pay range (step 1, currently $44.66 per hour). These ranges provide a standardized pathway for pay increases. With continued employment, new hires move to the next step in the range after 6 months and annually thereafter. Cost of Living Adjustments increase wages in these ranges each fiscal year. The current step progression wages are in the table below.
