Job Description

Located at Highland District Hospital (Hillsboro, OH) Full-Time Evening Shift (2:00 PM - 10:30 PM) With Weekend & Holiday Rotation Full-Time Night Shift (8:00 PM - 6:30 AM) With Weekend & Holiday Rotation Position Summary: The Bachelor level uncertified technologist performs standardized clinical laboratory waived and moderately complex testing in one or more sections of the laboratory following clearly defined, established and approved protocols with minimal technical supervision. The technologist performs designated technical procedures, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting, and quality control procedures. The technologist recognizes and resolves procedural and/or instrumental problems. The technologist works independently, accurately records all data as necessary and reports results within the Laboratory Information System (LIS) in a timely manner to aid in diagnosis and treatment of disease.  Responsibilities: Core Laboratory Perform and document daily/routine maintenance, calibrations, and QC on all equipment/reagents. Evaluate specimen suitability; prepare, label, store, and transport samples using proper techniques. Accurately and efficiently perform all testing per policies/procedures; incorporate patient history when reviewing results. Identify, question, and troubleshoot unexpected results; consult pathologists/providers as needed. Recognize factors affecting results; take protocol-driven actions (e.g., repeat testing, look-back, suspend autoverification). Detect and resolve issues with instruments, reagents, systems, results, and supplies; document all troubleshooting; contact technical support as needed. Prioritize workload to meet turnaround times; review pending logs to ensure timely completion. Accurately record/report results in systems; promptly notify providers of critical values. Prepare and issue blood and blood products. Ensure smooth shift handoffs; proactively ready instruments; escalate issues. Address customer inquiries (e.g., corrected reports) courteously and per policy. Maintain competency, continuing education, and proficiency testing. Support Technical Assistants; train new employees and students. Perform phlebotomy as needed. Histology Prepare specimens and packing lists for histology/cytology. Perform frozen sections (cutting, staining, scanning). Complete bone marrow procedures. Assist with thyroid FNA; stain for adequacy. Manage send-outs (outside consults, slides to requesting facilities). Perform daily maintenance on histology instrumentation per guidelines; record lab/storage temperatures daily. General Perform additional duties as assigned (e.g., specimen processing, projects). Work collaboratively to meet goals and complete work efficiently and on time. Comply with all CompuNet Clinical Laboratories safety, compliance, and HR policies. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical or biological science; OR High school graduate or equivalent and laboratory training/experience consisting of the following: Successfully completed military training of 50 or more weeks and served as a medical laboratory specialist; OR Appropriate training/experience as specified in 42CFR493.1423. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel preferred. Medical terminology and keyboarding skills helpful. Physical & Safety Demands: Hand-finger dexterity to collect, process and test specimens. Ability to work in an environment where standing prolonged amounts of time may be required. Comprehension of verbal and written directions. Concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted. Ability to work within specified deadlines and timetables. Excellent communication and people skills. Ability to lift and transport laboratory supplies/reagents. Must be able to work well under pressure or in stressful circumstances. Will have exposure to biohazard substances and hazardous chemicals Be familiar with and adhere to safety, ergonomic and health policies of the Company.  Comply with all PPE requirements when in the laboratory or other biohazard areas. Complete required safety training and health evaluations in a timely manner. Anticipate safety hazards, act upon unsafe situations and promote safety awareness.
