Job Description
Job Duties
The Family Practice Physician works as part of the medical provider team, performing a variety of direct primary care services to patients. The Family Practice Physician also provides general supervision to Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants as appropriate. In addition, unless specifically exempted by the Chief Medical Officer, the Family Practice Physician shall be qualified to serve on the active medical staff of a local hospital, providing inpatient care services and/or rounding on newborns.
- Provides primary medical care by caring for all patients in accordance with the Physician's medical specialty.
- Obtains complete medical history, reviews medications, and performs complete physical examinations.
- Provides health education to patients and their families as appropriate. Stresses the importance of preventive health care measures.
- Orders routine and diagnostic lab and x-ray studies according to approved protocols.
- Diagnoses both acute and chronic illnesses on the basis of clinical findings, laboratory and x-ray reports, and/or the results of other diagnostic procedures according to approved protocols.
- Implements treatment and prescribes medications as needed according to therapeutic goals. Explains medications and treatment plans to patients and their families.
- Formulates, initiates, and monitors management plans for assigned patients using approved protocols.

Graduation from an accredited medical school with a degree of Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy required.

Completion of an approved residency program in medicine required.

Board Certification in Family Medicine required. For recent graduates, board eligibility is acceptable as long as certification is obtained within five years of residency completion.

License to practice as a Physician in the state of Nebraska required. (Or license eligible.)

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office products required; experience with an Electronic Health Record preferred.

Proficiency in English required.

Proficiency in Spanish either preferred or required, depending on clinic location. If required, must be able to speak enough Spanish to examine Spanish-speaking patients and converse on a basic level.

Demonstrated ability to relate with warmth and effectiveness to culturally diverse patients as well as other OWCHC providers and staff members.

Ability and willingness to serve on the active medical staff of a hospital used by OneWorld Community Health Centers, which includes other requirements as part of the privileging process.

Ability to be credentialed and approved by OneWorld Community Health Centers’ Board of Directors.
