Job Description

Evolito’s mission is to accelerate the adoption of electric propulsion in aerospace applications in support of a net-zero world.  We will help to revolutionise personal mobility and transform our towns and cities with clean, noise-free air transportation.

Evolito develops and manufactures class-leading, lightweight, high-power, and high-torque-density electric propulsion systems for a range of aerospace markets, including EVTOL, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and General Aviation.

As well as ultra-high performance, low-weight electric motors and controllers, Evolito specialises in high integrity, bespoke battery systems for the aerospace and defence markets. The team is scaling rapidly and has ambitious growth plans over the next twelve to eighteen months.

As part of our current high-growth phase, we are looking for a Senior Development Engineer to play a key role in the design development, verification and validation of Evolito’s products. Reporting to our Lead Development Engineer, you will be responsible for analysing complex issues, developing methodologies and solutions to progress electric propulsion system performance, robustness and compliance. This position supports the full product lifecycle from concept development through qualification and certification.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Critically evaluate all aspects of the design from component to system level to support validation and verification of all customer, program and regulatory requirements

  • Identify and plan technical investigations to resolve complex engineering challenges to improve product robustness and maturity

  • Champion the use of structured problem-solving tools to conduct root cause analysis and define actions to be fed back into the design or manufacturing processes

  • Support the electric engine development plan to validate and verify program, regulatory and customer requirements

  • Lead collaboration across design, CAE, simulations, systems, manufacturing, materials and test teams to identify opportunities to deliver design solutions and progress product maturity

  • Lead the definition of test specifications required to execute the electric engine development plan

  • Collate validation and verification data across analysis and test to support flight clearance

  • Support the Lead Development Engineer and Chief Engineer to manage the technical strategy in the face of hardware design updates, failures and learnings, changes to requirements and updated aircraft strategy

  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, to progress the electric engine development plan through concept development, qualification and flight testing

  • Propose and implement data enrichment activities to further the depth of understanding of Evolito’s products, capture trends in test data, support analysis and investigate failures

  • Support the Lead Development Engineer to help to guide junior Development Engineers

  • Deputise for the Lead Development Engineer in areas falling under the development team remit, such as experiment review meetings.

Skills and experience required:

  • A degree or equivalent in Aerospace, Mechanical or Electronics Engineering

  • Experience in product development and technical investigations with strong analytical approach

  • Ability to use MATLAB, Python or NI tools to perform data analysis and capability to create new analysis scripts

  • Familiarity with structured problem solving tools such as DFMEA, PFMEA and 8D

  • Previous experience making compliance statements against requirements from verification evidence

  • Demonstratable knowledge of TRL levels and experience supporting product maturity progression

  • Experience in defining test article and equipment requirements in order to support verification testing

  • Demonstrated track record of engineering ability in an electrical or mechanical discipline

  • Instinctive problem-solving skills coupled with a sound analytical approach

  • A 'self-starter' attitude with energy and enthusiasm, with the ability to thrive in a small business environment

  • Ability to work under pressure while managing conflicting demands against tight deadlines

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • A flexible approach to work

  • UK driving license and ability to travel both domestically and internationally.
