Job Description

The Finishing Operator III may be trained and assigned to work in a variety of roles defined by business needs. This person must be able to pack and water spider and will be expected to train and be signed off in at least two of the following areas (determined by business needs) HV finishing, LV finishing, ASAP operator (operate JJ and packline), sheeter or editor. The Finishing Operator III is responsible for leading machine set ups and changeovers, problem-solving, working with or providing input to the engineering team on improvements, ensuring a quality product is being produced, and making decisions on machine adjustments.

This position will work from 7PM-7AM

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Activities and duties may vary depending upon site specific needs. Essential functions may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Support and model all Finishing activities within the team: safety, quality, productivity, teamwork & staffing needs

  • Attend and participate in all required training.

  • May serve as a trainer for other employees in the department.

  • Keep work areas supplied with necessary packaging materials

  • Continuously review current processes and search out improvement methods to improve product/process quality and reduce waste, rework, and unnecessary work that adds no value to the work or process.

  • Communicate issues and performance in MARS, daily shift reports and/or email

  • Run orders per product specifications and standard practices.

  • Perform routine set-up and changeover of machines

  • Load bulk material into the machine and unload finished product.

  • Report any malfunctions or abnormalities and make minor adjustments and repairs to equipment.

  • Accurately capture and record necessary operating data, including downtime causes and performance-to-plan.

  • Inspect general appearance of finished product

  • Label and package finished goods for shipment per customer specifications, quality requirements, and standard practices

  • Maintain a clean, safe work area

  • Perform 5S duties and audits

  • Perform general housekeeping tasks and waste removal within department/group and assists other areas as required

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance

  • Participate in group problem-solving teams and continuous improvement activities.

  • Teamwork: Assist and support other team members in meeting department and site goals. Participate and share in performing all tasks necessary to run the facility. Contribute and participate in team decision making. Provide support in project work and other special requests.

  • Perform all other duties assigned by Supervisor

Minimum Requirements:

  •  High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) or 3+ years of relevant manufacturing work experience

  • Previous manufacturing experience preferred

  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.

  • Must regard safety as a core value; must serve as a role model for other employees and encourage adherence to safety practices, policies and procedures. 

  • Must have strong service and quality focus; address issues effectively when problems arise and take initiative to understand the root cause, then communicate / educate the team in a timely manner.

  • Must demonstrate proficiency in essential tasks of the job and a willingness to learn and share knowledge; must take initiative to cross-train and sustain acquired skills. 

  • Must have demonstrated record of flexibility and dependability in order to support production and customer focus.

  • Must be able and willing to work overtime, including short-notice requests.

  • Must demonstrate proficiency with computer applications, especially strong Oracle transactional skills.
