For more than 80 years, glass fabricators and automotive engineers have counted on Saflex® PVB interlayers for high quality products, reliable service, and expert advice to help deliver world-class technology for laminated glass. Automotive engineers are also taking advantage of the variety of benefits these products offer, including heat, weight, and sound reduction as well as safety, security, UV protection, and head-up display (HUD) technology.
The role
In this exciting role, based in Shanghai, China, the Market Development Manager (MDM) will support the business to grow its presence in the B2B market in China.
Working within a cross-functional team, the role is to develop the marketing strategy with an in depth assessment of customer needs, trends, competition; understanding value chain, players; assessing what alternative strategies could be; and in making the final choice for an action-oriented strategy that drives profitable growth. Key responsibilities will involve identifying specific target customers to engage with and building strategic partnerships, as well as determining the applications to focus on and translating these into innovation projects. The team will then execute this plan, creating a strong project growth pipeline that aligns revenue and margin plans with each business's objectives.
The MDM will serve as the Marketing subject matter expert with a solid understanding of marketing frameworks with the passion and patience to coach others. He/she will use this marketing expertise to develop and execute market activation plans in conjunction with functional stakeholders while also monitoring the plans effectiveness and adjusting when necessary.
We are looking for a dynamic marketing professional who has experience with marketing decision frameworks with an emphasis on trends and insights identification, segmentation, targeting and positioning as well as successfully executing plans that have been developed in conjunction with functional teams
Responsibilities
- Identifies customer needs, trends, competitors offering, value chain assessment of applications that are attractive to target and through this understanding develops strategic options for how we can create value.
- Interfaces with leverage points along the automotive value chain to identify potential product and application opportunities.
- Defines where we want to play (who we target, who we partner with) and the value propositions we would want to develop (applications we target) and together with technology creates concepts of our targeted offerings (solutions).
- Develops/ updates together with cross functional team a strategic plan for the targeted growth platform.
- Supports growth projects as a Marketing resource by using Stage Gate methodology to make quality strategic choices on all initiatives; assists others as needed
- Works with marketing communications to define messaging and communication materials as well as provides coaching/ training to sales and other supporting functions in preparation for a new product launch or other market development key initiatives.
- Collaborating and communicating with all relevant stakeholders to develop and execute market activation plans whether for key strategic initiatives or stage gate projects.
- Motivates and mobilizes team to work safely and deliver results
Qualifications
Required Education and/or Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing or Technology
- 5+ years’ experience relevant experience, combining strong strategic marketing skills with bias for execution
- Acts independently and is skilled at stakeholder management – whether external or internal
- Knowledge of the value chains of the building and construction industry is a plus.
- Strong business/marketing acumen
- Has a creative and strategic mindset, high curiosity, enjoys learning new things
- Fluent in English. Fluency in other languages is a plus
