Job Description

Wofford College is seeking an Advising Coordinator for Student Athletes and Transfer Students.

The Advising Coordinator for Student Athletes and Transfer Students will play a central role in the Office of Academic Advising, providing holistic support that supports student athletes and transfer students while contributing to advising operations, process improvement, and student success initiatives. This role coordinates academic support and retention of student athletes; oversees credit evaluation coordination, orientation, and degree planning for transfer students and contributes to the broader goals of the Office of Academic Advising. The ideal candidate is organized, relationship-driven, and committed to incoming transfer students as they transition into a new academic environment. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a passion for working with student-athletes, knowledge of NCAA transfer legislation, and the ability to collaborate across academic and athletic departments.

Reporting to the Director of Academic Advising, the Advising Coordinator for Student Athletes and Transfer Students is a full-time, exempt position with a normal work schedule of 37.5 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Student Athlete Academic Support (40%)

  • Identify student-athletes at risk of academic difficulty through early alert systems, GPA monitoring, and faculty communication and connect them with appropriate campus resources including tutoring, counseling, and accessibility services.

  • Conduct regular one-on-one check-ins to monitor academic performance, engagement, and overall well-being for students identified as being at risk.

  • Conduct madatory tutoring and/or mentoring programs for student athletes on academic probation or at risk of losing eligibility.

  • Track academic improvement and maintain documentation of all intervention efforts for compliance and reporting purposes.

  • Collaborate with coaching staff to communicate academic standing and eligibility.

Transfer Student Support (40%)

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for admitted transfer students from acceptance through deposit confirmation.

  • Conduct personalized outreach to admitted students to address questions, remove barriers, and encourage enrollment.

  • Pre-enrollment check points and clear/proactive communication of key deadlines.

  • Coordinate with the registrar and academic departments to ensure timely and accurate transfer credit evaluation for transfer students.

  • Meet individually with each incoming transfer student to review evaluated transcripts; advise on how transferred credits apply to major and/or minor requirements, general education, and electives to develop a degree plan.

  • Guide students through course selection and registration for their first semester.

  • Serve as the institutional point of contact for transfer-related policies, questions, and departmental coordination with the campus community.

Advising Office Support (20%)

  • Contributes to the development and maintenance of advising resources, including degree planning, transfer orientation, and website content.

  • Participate in the review and improvement of advising processes, forms, and workflows to enhance efficiency and student experience.

  • Provide information to prospective students regarding programs at Wofford. This may include working with the Admissions and Athletics offices at various times for specific presentations as needed.

  • Advises and supports students with academic planning while connecting them with resources and opportunities to achieve their educational and professional goals.

  • Assist the advising office with advising coverage, walk-in appointments, and drop-in support during peak advising periods.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, student affairs, or related field

  • 2+ years of experience in academic advising, student success, or transition programs

  • Experience with transfer credit processes or degree auditing

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Proficiency with SIS platforms (e.g., Banner, Workday, etc.)

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in higher education, counseling, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience with transfer and/or athletic advising
  • Experience designing and facilitating orientation or transition programs
  • Familiarity with early alert and retention systems
  • Experience with Workday
