Why This Role Matters
The function of the Coordinator role is to assist the Chinese Works of Art, Chinese Paintings and Japanese and Korean departments with comprehensive administrative support in the business getting and sale processing for Asian Art Week in New York. The duties are varied and will follow the cycle of the sales calendar as well as tasks to support overall department activity.
How You Will Make An Impact
General department administrative tasks as assigned by line manager, business director and senior specialists
Answer and screen incoming telephone calls on the department line
Manage departmental supplies, and courier requests
Compose and edit client communications as required; manage and respond to client inquiries during the sale season cycles as well as throughout the year on various communication platforms
Work closely, efficiently and effectively with other internal departments including international and regional offices, as well as external organizations and vendors as needed
Provide support to department specialists and sale coordinators in pre-sale tasks including research, catalogue preparation, client-facing sale materials for distribution and additional images of works to be offered for sale
Assist with installing for auction previews, which includes compiling, printing, and mounting lot cards for each lot
Support sale coordinators in tracking property, status updates with sales, and other projects as needed
Provide appraisals support, which includes liaising with specialists and other internal departments
Provide support to specialists in managing the departmental library books, provenance and research materials
Support client strategy director with research including Artnet searches, compiling spreadsheets of competitive sales, cataloguing research and entering data for object intelligence, and assisting client research during auction periods
Other various projects as assigned by line manager
What You Will Bring To The Team
Undergraduate degree required
Fluency in Mandarin preferred
Hard-working, energetic, positive and intellectually curious self-starter who can thrive in a high-pressure environment
Superior attention to detail and follow-up skills
Strong project management skills including ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage multiple processes
Exceptional interpersonal and client service skills, including strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively across multiple groups and sites; ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
Ability to creatively problem solve
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, and ability to learn Christie’s systems including JDE, COS, Canvas, Intranet, Object Finder and Christies.com
