About the Role

As part of BDO’s continued growth in our Risk Advisory – Internal Audit capability, we are seeking an established Director to join our Brisbane team. 

In this role, you will lead complex, value‑adding internal audit and risk advisory engagements, partnering with Executives, Boards and Audit & Risk Committees to strengthen governance, decision‑making and organisational performance. 
You will play a key role in shaping the direction of our Internal Audit offering in Queensland – driving client relationships, leading high‑impact engagements and contributing to the continued growth of the practice. 

About the service line / team 
BDO’s Risk Advisory team supports organisations to manage risk in a practical and proportionate way. 
Our Internal Audit capability delivers risk‑based internal audit and advisory services across a range of co‑sourced and outsourced models. The team works closely with specialists across BDO’s broader Advisory practice, including forensics, cyber, finance advisory and people consulting. 

Key responsibilities 

  • Lead and oversee complex, risk‑based internal audit and risk advisory engagements across a diverse client portfolio 
  • Own senior client relationships, acting as a trusted adviser to Executives, Boards and Audit & Risk Committees 
  • Shape our market offering to deliver internal audit programs, including strategic and annual plans aligned to organisational objectives 
  • Provide clear, commercially focused insights and recommendations on governance, risk and assurance matters 
  • Identify opportunities to expand existing client relationships as a trusted advisor to continue to grow the Brisbane Risk Advisory practice 
  • Drive business development activity, including leading proposals, developing market-facing collateral and identifying new service opportunities 
  • Contribute to the strategic direction, methodology and market positioning of BDO’s Internal Audit offering 
  • Build, mentor and empower a high‑performing team and develop future leaders to continue building a strong, sustainable capability aligned to our growth aspirations 

About you 

  • Extensive experience in internal audit or risk advisory, with a strong track record operating at Director level within a professional services or complex organisational environment 
  • Proven ability to build and lead senior client relationships, including engagement with Boards and Audit & Risk Committees 
  • Strong commercial acumen, with demonstrated experience winning and growing client work 
  • Deep understanding of risk‑based internal audit approaches, including development of audit strategies and enterprise‑wide risk assessments 
  • A natural leader who develops talent, builds capability and creates high‑performing teams 
  • Professional certification (CIA, CA or CPA) is highly regarded
