Job Overview
Location/Schedule: This position is based at the 1818 building, a day treatment facility located in SE Portland OR. The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, either 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Position Description: The Skills Trainer works as a member of a milieu team to provide individual and group skills training and individual case management services to clients who are mandated by the Psychiatric Security Review Board (PSRB), including clients with a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and co-occurring mental health disorders. This position involves participation and implementation of program objectives to promote a strengths-based, client centered approach to assisting clients in achieving their goals, and ultimately transitioning to a less restrictive setting.

With the high prevalence of trauma among individuals receiving behavioral health services, it is required that the incumbent understand the effects of trauma on health, coping, and other aspects of the lives of those we serve.
Essential Responsibilities

Provide structured groups & individual skills training as well as Case Management as directed by the mental health plan, in order to provider treatment and support of clients and as mandated by the PSRB. This will require consultation with supervisor and case managers on individual plans, developing activities on community integration, connecting clients to services, the support of self-care and hygiene, social skills and daily living skills as well as transportation out in the community
Consult with treatment team to promote the goals and objectives of the program and for the clients; communicate with case manager, program leadership and administrator with regards to treatment.
Perform environmental checks to ensure the safety of clients and milieu staff
Monitor clients and ensure adherence to the conditions of their release referring to their court mandated orders in collaboration with the treatment team.
Accompany clients to medical or other appointments as necessary using a company provided vehicle. This may include driving a 15-passenger van.
Collect Urinary Analyses (UAs) and Oral swabs from clients as mandated by the PSRB. This requires observation in a clinic setting.
Update the UA system and the proprietary tracking systems to maintain accurate records
Assist in crisis situations following emergency protocols and procedures. Provide de-escalation to avoid crisis situations and coordinate with the treatment team and staff on client interventions
Adhere to compliance, required laws and trainings, safety of property and staff, regulations, I.e. Mandatory abuse reporting laws and HIPAA, fire regulations
Complete annul employee training requirements in order to understand how to conduct ethical work, for professional development, and stay in compliance
Participate in all scheduled staff meetings, supervision sessions, and other departmental and agency meetings.
Document and maintain clinical records in a manner that assures compliance with all agency policy and procedures and local, state and federal regulations through use of Electronic Health Record System (EHR)
Maintain facility supply stock: Track supply orders and purchase as needed using program funds
Assist with meal preparation and light household chores. This may including assisting with cleaning around facility, cooking sessions, meal preparation and clean up.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
Must meet the requirements and demonstrate the competencies to be credentialed as a Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA). Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a behavioral science field from an accredited college or university or three years of mental health work experience or a combination of work experience and education. Certification must be current and in compliance with MHACBO
Experience:
One-year relevant work experience or knowledge demonstrative of/equal to working with those living with severe and persistent mental illness SPMI.
Experience working with those who are mandated by the PSRB or another governing board/entity is desired
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to creatively engage with clients in long term treatment
Able to avoid escalation and practice de-escalation techniques
Advanced knowledge of culturally specific services
Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care and Motivational Interviewing,
Understanding of the Recovery Model and Illness Management
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and basic Excel skills
Must be able to operate computer programs and systems at a level needed to perform the essential duties. I.e. data entry in Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
Other:
Ability to pass a DMV check; possess a valid driver’s license, three year driving history, and clean driving record.
Working Conditions
Environmental: The work settings consist of residential homes, office, and in the community. The position provides outreach to residential facilities and in the community. Typical operating hours for this role are between 8:00am-4:30pm.
Mental: Meal periods and breaks are subject to interruption. Universal precautions should be taken due to exposure to disease, biohazards, noise and contaminants.
Physical: There will be consistent periods of working stationary at a desk to input data and complete charting; providing community outreach at other locations where stairs may be present; regularly able to move about in community settings and residential environments. Requires constant communication and observation with client and staff to ensure safety and adherence to mandates and regulation. Running is infrequent.
