
Relief Emergency Shelter Counselor
Job Description
The Center for Youth: Started BY YOUTH FOR YOUTH. We partner with youth to realize their full potential, by creating opportunities, removing barriers and promoting social justice.
Overview:
Our free, confidential and voluntary, 13-bed shelter serves youth, 12-17 years old, for up to 30 days. Counselors provide nonjudgmental, individualized support to help youth reunite with their families or find alternative, stable housing.
Schedule: Relief/ part-time position. Hours can include a combination of days, evenings, overnights and weekends.
Responsibilities:
- Supervision of: wake-up, clean-up, daily chores and bedtime
- Distribution of medications and appropriate documentation
- Liaison with Intake and Emergency Shelter Support (Counseling) teams
- Individual counseling and mentoring
- After-hour response, assessment and intake of youth in need
- Development and supervision of social, cultural and recreational activities
- Crisis/conflict/prevention/intervention, response and intervention
- Maintenance of accurate and timely program records
- Maintenance of facility and grounds
- Daily meal planning and preparation
Required Qualifications:
- High School Degree OR GED OR equivalent combination / 1 year human service experience preferred
- A valid driver's license
Skills:
- Counseling approaches and techniques
- Crisis prevention
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
Pay Rate: $17 per hour
