Solicitor Advocate

Legal Officer Grade V

 

Location – Parramatta

Employment type – Temporary full-time opportunities for up to 2 years

Salary – $135,176 to $137,826 pa plus super and annual leave loading

 

Shape high-impact parole advocacy and legal strategy across NSW

 

Join Corrective Services NSW in a specialised advocacy role where your legal expertise will directly influence parole proceedings, public safety outcomes and complex correctional law matters across NSW.

 

We are seeking experienced solicitor advocates to represent the Commissioner of Corrective Services NSW before the State Parole Authority and other relevant jurisdictions, while contributing to complex legal strategy, policy development and operational legal advice within a high-performing legal team.

 

These temporary two-year opportunities offer exposure to challenging and high-profile matters involving parole, criminal law, administrative law and correctional operations in a fast-paced and highly specialised environment within the High Risk & Countering Violent Extremism directorate.

 

What you’ll do

In this role you will:

  • Regularly appear as solicitor advocate in parole proceedings before the State Parole Authority and other relevant forums
  • Prepare and present high-quality submissions, evidence and legal advice in complex and sensitive matters
  • Provide strategic legal advice to senior executives and operational stakeholders across CSNSW
  • Conduct legal research and contribute to the development of legal precedent, policy and operational practice
  • Manage a diverse and high-volume caseload involving complex legal and operational issues
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, the Crown Solicitor’s Office and other relevant government agencies on significant legal matters and reforms

 

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for capable, resilient legal professionals who thrive in advocacy environments and can navigate complex legal and operational issues with professionalism and sound judgement.

 

To succeed in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Strong advocacy experience in courts, tribunals or similar contested environments
  • Knowledge and experience of criminal law, administrative law or related jurisdictions
  • The ability to prepare clear, persuasive and strategically focused submissions and legal advice
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, negotiation and communication skills
  • Strong analytical capability and sound legal judgement under pressure
  • The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment

Essential requirements

  • Legal qualifications and eligibility to hold a current NSW practising certificate
  • Demonstrated experience as a solicitor advocate or in a comparable advocacy-focused legal role
  • Current Working with Children Check clearance
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain relevant security clearances if required
