Position Summary:

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville is seeking applications for a Business Manager for the College of Business, Industry, Life Science & Agriculture (BILSA). This position manages the administrative and operational functions of the BILSA Dean's Office and serves as a key partner in supporting the college's academic mission and strategic priorities. The Business Manager oversees college-level business operations, including budget administration, financial management, procurement, human resources processes, reporting, and committee coordination.

In collaboration with college leadership, the Business Manager develops, implements, and evaluates operational procedures and workflows that support college programs and priorities. By identifying operational needs and implementing process improvements, this position promotes efficient and effective business operations while ensuring compliance with university policies and procedures. As a trusted resource to college leadership, the Business Manager supports informed decision-making, enhances operational effectiveness, and contributes to both the day-to-day administration of the college and its long-term strategic goals.

This is a full-time, 12-month, benefit and paid leave eligible position with a salary of $60,000 per year.

Key Job Responsibilities:


  • Manage daily administrative and operational functions of the College of BILSA Dean’s Office, ensuring effective coordination of services that support college programs, initiatives, and priorities.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate operational procedures and workflows; identify inefficiencies and recommend process improvements to enhance effectiveness and compliance.
  • Oversee college budget management, including monitoring accounts, reconciliation, financial tracking, reporting, and approval of routine expenditures in alignment with university policies.
  • Coordinate procurement and purchasing activities, including purchase orders, invoices, and foundation transactions, ensuring compliance with applicable policies and proper documentation.
  • Support human resources and staffing processes for the college, including recruitment coordination, onboarding activities, and adherence to HR policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate committee and programmatic operations by coordinating meetings, preparing agendas, recording minutes, and ensuring timely distribution of materials.
  • Prepare and maintain financial, staffing, and operational reports to support leadership decision-making and required internal or external reporting.
  • Supervise student employees, including hiring support, training, scheduling, task assignment, performance oversight, and approval of hours worked.
  • Coordinate travel and reimbursement processes for the Dean’s Office, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with institutional requirements.
  • Identify resource needs across office functions and assist in allocating support to ensure efficient operations across multiple priorities and stakeholders.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Dean’s Office and internal/external partners to facilitate communication, resolve issues, and support cross-functional coordination.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of college programs and operational needs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, or related field.

  • Two years of office management, administrative support, or business operations experience.

  • Experience with budget management, financial systems, or fund accounting.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  •  Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and external partners.

  • High attention to detail and accuracy in financial and administrative work.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
