Job Description

About T-Systems International GmbH

At T-Systems, we offer business customers the right system solutions for their digital business. With our portfolio we ensure that digital transformation reduces complexity, saves costs and makes day-to-day work easier. We focus on the areas connectivity, digital, cloud & infrastructure as well as security - Let's power higher performance!
About the Position

As a Site Reliability Engineer specializing in Observability, you play a key role in ensuring the transparency, stability, and reliability of our distributed cloud, edge, and Kubernetes platforms. You are responsible for the design, implementation, and continuous evolution of modern observability solutions, providing the foundation for the reliable operation of complex cloud-native infrastructures.
Leveraging your expertise in OpenTelemetry, distributed tracing, and modern telemetry architectures, you design, implement, and operate high-performance pipelines for metrics, logs, and traces. You integrate the OpenTelemetry Collector, OTLP, SDKs, and auto-instrumentation into existing platforms, enabling comprehensive end-to-end observability across distributed applications and services.
You implement and operate Jaeger as the central distributed tracing platform and develop correlation mechanisms across logs, metrics, and traces to rapidly identify root causes and provide end-to-end visibility into complex dependencies within distributed systems. In doing so, you apply modern sampling strategies, context propagation techniques, and efficient approaches to trace storage and high-performance analysis of large-scale telemetry data.
In addition, you integrate security, infrastructure, and platform events into centralized SIEM solutions and develop standardized telemetry and instrumentation concepts for Kubernetes and cloud-native platforms. Using your programming skills in Go, Python, or Shell, you automate integration and operational processes, making a significant contribution to the continuous evolution of a scalable, highly available, and future-proof observability platform for modern distributed infrastructures.

Must-Have Skills
Extensive experience with OpenTelemetry, including the OpenTelemetry Collector, OTLP, SDKs, and auto-instrumentation
  • Strong expertise in distributed tracing, including span correlation, context propagation, and sampling strategies
  • Experience deploying and operating Jaeger, including trace storage, indexing, and query optimization
  • Solid knowledge of SIEM integration, security event management, and the use of CEF and Syslog-based protocols
  • Proficiency in Go, Python, or Shell scripting for telemetry integration, automation, and operational tooling
  • Experience with Kubernetes observability, cloud-native platforms, and modern telemetry architectures
  • Strong understanding of IT security principles and security best practices
  • Strong analytical and structured approach to problem-solving
  • Experience in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) or infrastructure operations
  • Excellent German language skills, both written and spoken (CEFR C1 level)
Nice-to-Have Skills
Design, implement, configure, and operate OpenTelemetry-based telemetry pipelines for metrics, logs, and distributed tracing
  • Integrate, administer, and continuously optimize Jaeger for the visualization, analysis, and troubleshooting of distributed services and applications
  • Design and implement correlation mechanisms across logs, metrics, and traces to enable comprehensive end-to-end observability
  • Integrate security, infrastructure, and platform events into centralized SIEM and analytics platforms to support monitoring, security, and incident response processes
  • Develop and establish telemetry, instrumentation, and observability standards for cloud-native and Kubernetes platforms
  • Ensure the reliable and high-performance operation of observability solutions in air-gapped, edge, fog, and other distributed environments

What You Can expect

You can expect a challenging role in the field of modern cloud-native, Kubernetes, edge, and observability technologies. In this position, you will play an active role in building a future-ready observability platform and work on innovative solutions for telemetry, distributed tracing, and security monitoring across distributed infrastructures. You will leverage leading open-source technologies such as OpenTelemetry, Jaeger, and modern cloud-native tools to continuously enhance the transparency, reliability, and operational visibility of complex platforms. Working in a technologically advanced environment with a high degree of ownership and creative freedom, you will make a significant contribution to the stability, security, and scalability of mission-critical systems.

What We Offer

Flexibility and Work-Life Balance: Benefit from flexible working hours, mobile work options, and a hybrid work model.
  • Attractive Compensation: A competitive salary package that recognizes your expertise and performance.
  • Development Opportunities: Access to extensive training programs, courses, and career development initiatives.
