Reports To: Production Manager

Location: Ponca City, OK

Amount of Travel Required: N/A

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 5:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.                                     

Positions Supervised: Layout Team

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Layout Manager is responsible for planning, managing, and optimizing the cutting and pre-fabrication processes to safely produce quality parts for the manufacturing process. This role oversees the fabrication of miscellaneous parts used across all fabrication processes, ensuring operations are conducted in the most efficient manner possible.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (The following duties and responsibilities are all essential job functions, as defined by the ADA, except for those that begin with the word "may")

  • Plans, manages, and optimizes cutting and pre-fabrication activities to ensure efficient production of quality parts.
  • Oversees the fabrication of miscellaneous parts used throughout various manufacturing processes.
  • Ensures all employees are trained to create parts within established safety guidelines.
  • Optimizes cutting and bending processes to maximize production efficiency.
  • Trains employees in the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and the safe operation of layout machines and tools.
  • Communicates job expectations and performance requirements clearly to all department employees.
  • Provides root cause analysis and executes corrective action plans for operational issues.
  • Initiates, coordinates, and enforces production, safety, and quality systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Verifies that all produced parts meet the specified requirements for subsequent fabrication stages.
  • Ensures that parent material and consumables meet all required specifications.
  • Schedules throughput in a manner that consistently meets production schedules.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to assist with successful operations and business continuity.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • Successfully passes all applicable general pre-employment testing including but not limited to: background check, pre-employment drug screening, pre-employment fit tests, pre-employment aptitude and/or competency assessment(s) and pre-employment Pulmonary Function Test (PFT).
  • In person, predictable attendance in Ponca City, OK.
  • Overtime required based on business needs.
  • Proficiency in spoken English language.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE LEVEL

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership role involving performance management, safety enforcement, and employee training.
  • 3+ years of experience in a supervisory or management role overseeing production teams.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in the trailer manufacturing or heavy equipment industry.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, COMPETENCIES, AND ABILITIES

  • Proper use of common cutting and bending techniques for steel part manufacturing.
  • Optimization of layout productivity, efficiency, and department performance.
  • Interpretation of blueprints, technical drawings, and bills of materials (BOM).
  • Application of lean manufacturing techniques to fabrication processes.
  • Technical knowledge of material characteristics and manufacturing behaviors.
  • High level of analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Delivery of clear visual, written, and oral instructions to team members.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to communicate expectations and performance requirements.
  • Deep understanding of safety standards related to part fabrication and layout machinery.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

Employees are frequently required to walk, sit, climb, reach, bend, crawl, lift, balance, stoop, handle materials, and squat or kneel. Employees must regularly lift and move up to forty-nine (49) pounds independently and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds with a team lift. This role requires working both indoors and outdoors, often during inclement weather, while performing labor-intensive duties. The work environment includes exposure to hazardous materials and operating conditions. Given the hazardous nature of the work environment, employees are required to wear company-mandated and company-issued Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including coveralls or shirt/jeans combination, safety hat, steel toe boots, safety glasses, ear protection, and designated safety gloves according to role. Employees must strictly adhere to all safety policies, including the Companies' Life Saving Rules and procedures at all times.

Work hours may include early morning, late afternoon/evening hours, and weekends in combination depending on job demands.
