Position Summary:
Position is responsible for providing a variety of skilled work related to the maintenance and repair of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system which includes installation, preventative maintenance and service calls.
**This position has been classified as Safety Sensitive in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act and/or the Department of Transportation (DOT), and Board Policy G-37-R3 Medical Marijuana & SafetySensitive Positions Regulation. All candidates selected for hire or transferred into a Safety Sensitive position must undergo and pass a pre-employment drug screen before being hired or transferred. Employees holding safety-sensitive positions may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment, if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.**

HVAC-Apprentice

Essential Duties:
- Assists journeyman with opening and inspecting air handling, cooling and heating equipment, recognizing, repairing or replacing worn or non-functional components, adjusting and lubricating such parts to insure continued, efficient functioning of the machine or system. Types of systems include window air conditioning units, rooftop units, chiller units, boiler units and reciprocating systems.
- Assists with checking, renewing or cleaning filters in heating or cooling air handling equipment, and ventilators.
- Inspects, adjusts and replaces belts.
- Lubricates motors, bearings, pulleys, linkages and adjusts as necessary.
- Works with team to install new HVAC equipment, follow maintenance schedules, log work accomplished, and interact with building based personnel to ascertain problems and locations of needed work.
- Operates district owned vehicles to perform assigned worksites.
- Works in a team-based environment to share information and workload while ensuring all assigned work orders are completed.
- Performs work in a safe manner on a daily basis and ensure that all safety measures are taken at all times.
- Core work schedule may change due to operational needs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required):
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- One (1) year in mechanical support role, with a technical aptitude to perform maintenance, service, and troubleshoot equipment.
- Must have valid driver’s license to operate district owned vehicles with an acceptable driving record as determined to meet district motor vehicle insurance coverage requirements.
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions as given.
- Knowledgeable of current city codes and EPA regulations.
- Ability to learn or perform routine preventative maintenance on all HVAC equipment.
- Must have experience or general knowledge of HVAC trade and willingness to learn all phases.
- General knowledge of practices, tools and terminology of the HVAC trade.
- Understands the theory of heat exchange and air circulation and knowledge of electricity as it applies to HVAC equipment.
- Current Boiler Operator License or ability to obtain within (90) days of employment.
- Trade school course work in HVAC systems/installation, apprenticeship program, or applied job experience which provides the required knowledge preferred.
- Willingness to obtain, or in possession of, state Apprentice license (meeting all of the requirements to do so as dictated by Oklahoma Construction Industries Board).
Physical/Mental Requirements:
- Must have adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on the computer.
- Must have adequate visual acuity to read, interpret and transcribe written material and other required duties.
- Requires normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others in person and on the telephone. May periodically require work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, under sometimes stressful conditions in order to meet business needs and strict deadlines.
- Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 75 pounds .
- Ability to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, work in small spaces, walk and reach overhead.
- Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job.
Work Environment:
- Work involves frequent exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals bio hazardous materials, dirt dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.
