
Design Supervisor Design - Indirect
Job Description
PURPOSE Assists the Design Manager in overseeing the work of the design team ensuring drawings are error free and completed on time
Schedules work assignments
Reviews and approve drawings
Trains new designers
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Oversees the work of employees that are using computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering and design tasks
Supervises daily layout of design work performed and ensures timely completion. • Originates and checks layout and design drawings for structural wood products manufactured or supplied by the company
Reviews new orders and estimates completion time
Assigns appropriate design personnel to complete the work
Sets design pricing
Assists the truss technician to ensure the products supplied satisfy the goals of a Builders FirstSource design department – ensuring correct geometry, structural integrity, and economy
Records and tracks design errors per company policy
Holds meetings with designers to discuss any design issues and reach a solution to avoid errors in the future
Performs some layout and design work daily
Reviews the lead times of the design office and coordinates shifting of design work with other designers when required
Communicates with contractors, company sales representatives, and building designers as required to obtain information for timely drawing completion
Administers new employee training to ensure familiarity with company products and processes
Reviews work that is generated
Other duties may be assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Supervises assigned employees including staff selection and training; planning, assigning and directing work; conducting performance reviews; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
Provide leadership and guidance to coach, motivate, and lead team members to their optimum performance levels and career development
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily

Associate's degree (A
A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; Or two (2) years related experience and/or training; Or equivalent combination of education and experience
Previous supervisory and design experience required
Level 3 design certification required
COMPETENCIES Knowledge of wood frame construction
Must demonstrate excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to handle multiple priorities
Strong knowledge of selling within building industry to maximize profit margins, Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
