Job Description

Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital seeks a Patient Transporter for their Central Transportation department responsible for providing transport for patients, equipment, supplies, and other miscellaneous materials. Performs duties aimed to enhance, the comfort and safety of our patients. Major accountabilities include transporting patients to assigned rooms or to areas of the hospital as required for treatment and procedures. Using electronic Tele-Tracking program; responds immediately to requests in the time frame allowed by the situation.

  • Cleans, washes, maintains wheelchairs, gurneys, and patient lifting equipment. Checks transporting equipment for proper mechanical working condition; if a problem is found, removes it from service and submits appropriate work order for repair.

  • Transports a variety of items, blood, specimens, medical equipment, non-controlled medications, linen, walkers and commodes, dietary food trays, and other miscellaneous items to and from specified areas.

All job qualifications listed indicate the minimum level necessary to perform this job proficiently. 

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Minimum: American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS).

Technical Requirements:

  • Minimum: Ability to utilize e-mail, cell phones, and pagers.

Years of Related Work Experience:

  • Preferred: 1 year or longer transporting patients by gurney, wheelchair or equivalent hands on experience obtained in hospital's set up patient care.

*Pay for non-physician positions is determined based on related years of experience and internal equity. Eligible employees may also receive additional forms of compensation, including shift differentials, on-call pay, incentive pay, and bonus opportunities, where applicable. Manager and above positions may participate in Cottage Health’s annual management incentive program. Physician compensation is determined based upon specialty and may include bonus potential.
