ENGINEERING HIRING POOL

This program aims to establish a pool of applicants suitable for filling TCEQ Engineering and General Engineering Specialist positions.

Licensed Engineers receive a $5,000.00 recruitment bonus. Unlicensed Engineers can join TCEQ and receive training and study resources to prepare for their PE exam.

 

How does the Engineer Hiring Program work?

Hiring supervisors in the Austin Central Office, or any of TCEQ’s sixteen regional offices, may request candidates with specific Texas Professional Engineer licenses and geographic preferences from the Engineer Hiring pool. The hiring supervisor schedules interviews and makes a final selection.

Positions Available /Minimum Qualifications

 

Engineer 1

Texas Professional Engineer's license.

 

Engineer II

Texas Professional Engineer's license plus one year of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure*.

 

Engineer III

Texas Professional Engineer's license plus two years of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure*.

 

Engineer IV

Texas Professional Engineer's license plus three years of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure*.

 

Engineer V

Texas Professional Engineer's license plus four years of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure*.

 

Engineer VI

Texas Professional Engineer's license plus five years of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure*.

 

*Qualifying work experience includes that obtained post licensure as an engineering graduate student or teacher.

 

GENERAL ENGINEERING SPECIALIST

 

General Engineering Specialist I

A bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.

 

General Engineering Specialist II

A bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university, plus one year of full-time engineering experience**.

 

General Engineering Specialist III

A bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university, plus two years of full-time engineering experience**.

 

General Engineering Specialist IV

A bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university, plus four years of full-time engineering experience**.

 

General Engineering Specialist V

A bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university, plus five years of full-time engineering experience**.

 

General Engineering Specialist VI

A bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university, plus six years of full-time engineering experience**.

 

** Substitutions for experience:

State of Texas Engineer-in-Training (Fundamentals of Engineering) certification will substitute for six months of the required experience.

A master's degree in engineering, environmental science, or related fields from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience.

A doctorate in engineering, environmental science, or related fields from an accredited college or university may substitute for two years of the required experience.

How long does my application stay on file?

Applications remain on file for one year from the date of receipt. Eligible individuals may submit a new application for an additional one-year period.

 

What if my transcripts are from an international university?

Applicants who hold an international degree should contact a foreign degree evaluation service to have their course work evaluated prior to submitting for a position with the TCEQ. The service must be a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or acceptable to the Texas State Board of Education Certification.

A photocopy of the evaluation must be included with the job submission in order for it to be considered complete.
