Associate Underwriter, Large Commercial Casualty Railroad Exton, PA | New York, NY Railroad companies with complex risks turn to AXA XL for an array of liability coverages to protect their assets in the event of losses beyond the self-insured retention (SIR) or the limits of their primary insurance program

AXA XL North America Railroad business unit offers liability coverage to North American based Insureds

Underwriting teams are based in New York, NY and Exton, PA

We have a vast appetite for risk with a portfolio that includes freight railroads, transit, light rail systems, rail contractors, and many more

As Associate Underwriter, you will support the Underwriting team and act as the owner and principal facilitator of assigned accounts

The Associate Underwriter will perform front-to-end activities throughout the life cycle of renewal and prospect accounts from submission to expiration with Underwriting oversight

This role will report to Head of North America Railroad

What you’ll be doing What will your essential responsibilities include

Pre-underwrites, evaluates risk, and assesses completeness of the underwriting package before underwriter is required to review

Communicate directly with Brokers on to collect account and insured information necessary for risk analysis

Perform and apply knowledge of line of business specific product underwriting rules and/or guidelines for pre-analysis support of submission in preparation of further analysis for quoting stage

Collaborate effectively with Underwriters, Brokers, and internal units within AXA XL to manage the status and workflow of multiple tasks and accounts

Communicate account status to ensure completion of outstanding subjectivities needed to execute policy issuance and premium collection as part of bound accounts

Develops initial pricing, basic coverage structuring, quotation, and binder packages of the risk

Calculate base rating and apply experience modifications as part of underwriting package for Underwriter review

Manage the workflow of multiple tasks and maintain a detailed understanding of the status of various tasks owned by Underwriters, Brokers, and AXA XL internal network

Communicate account status to ensure completion of all tasks including premium collection as part of bound accounts

Collaborate and correspond verbally and in written format with internal and external contacts across the country, keeping in mind differences in time zones, to achieve a high level of service and meet client expectations

What you will BRING We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills: Required Skills and Abilities: Bachelor’s degree or related insurance experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Analytical, negotiation and sales/marketing skills Excellent written and oral communication skills

Excellent customer service focus is a must

Adept interpersonal skills in order to work effectively and professionally with diverse groups

Proven prioritization and time management skills with accurate results

Organizational, problem-solving and critical thinking skills

Robust collaborative skills in a fast-paced team-centric environment

Applicants for this role must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future

The U.S. base salary range for this position is USD (64,200 - 112,400)

Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience and location
