Insight Healing Center is a rehabilitation center providing meals to patients along with servicing the psych hospital within the Flint Campus. We are a 30 bed rehab dealing with TBI and orthopedic injuries.
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Cook to follow recipes and cooking instructions from the Dietary Manager to provide nutritious meals to both in-patients and employees. The Cook works directly for the Hospital Dietary Manager, and side by side with RNs and other colleagues, to support the delivery of excellent patient care to surgical patients. Due to the nature of being a smaller Hospital, the Cook will also assist with other duties that help with the daily flow of our Kitchen such as food preparation for patients, visitors and employees, dietary hygiene, menu planning, inventory, compliance, serving, cashiering and drawer balancing, along with general cafe and kitchen responsibilities.

- Follows cooking instructions from the Dietary Manager to cook meals
- Updates supervisor in regard to unstocked items, etc in a timely manner
- Creates recipes under the direction and supervision of the Dietary Manager/Dietitian
- Prepares sandwiches, salads, fruit and other food items for the refrigerator case
- Prepares patient meals according to patient’s diet
- Follows menu and Dietary Manager’s instructions to adhere to the Patient Menu
- Establishes and maintains positive customer relations
- Preps for Breakfasts and Lunches for the following day
- Chops and cuts food items for current and followings days
- Maintains stock and cleanliness of the serving line, salad bar, counters, refrigerator, tables and chairs in cafeteria
- Pulls clean dish racks from the dishwashing machines and store dishes in appropriate areas
- Adheres to HACCP standards and health departments regulations
- Upholds safety and sanitation for both the Kitchen and storage areas
- Assists with the preparation of birthday parties and other catered events as needed
- Other duties as assigned
- Demonstrates eligibility to work for any employer in the U.S.
- High school diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent
- SafeServ certified preferred
- Ability to cook healthy and tasty meals
- Previous experience within a healthcare environment is preferred
- At least one (1) year of experience cooking for a restaurant, and/or quantity cooking experience required
- General knowledge of quantity, food preparation and serving
- Demonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care and to meet documentation standards.
