Overview
Responsible for following all policies and procedures associated with the coding classification schemes to assign diagnostic and procedural codes to the trauma patient population. Contributes to the proper management of health information through consistent and accurate code assignment processes adhering to all regulatory coding principles. Responsible for overseeing trauma registry activity, including maintenance of a comprehensive trauma registry meeting the requirements of the Virginia Trauma Designation process. This position is responsible for downloading accurate data to the state and national data registries. Additionally, this individual coordinates the collection and analysis of statistical data related to the clinical outcomes for the designated patient populations, supporting the DNV initiatives for outcomes research. The Registrar works to improve the quality of the trauma program through the tracking and dissemination of various quality indicators.

What you will do
- Maintains annual competencies.
- Promotes RHS through physician relationships. Facilitates medical staff participation in quality management and program leadership.
- Demonstrates the ability to work within RHS's policies and procedures regarding work assignments, attendance, and interpersonal relations.
- Participates in public relations, marketing, and outreach programs to promote the trauma system program and to provide trauma prevention education to the community.
- Abstracts data from patient charts in an accurate and timely manner with minimal variances.
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED, (Required)
Experience
- 2 years Anatomy and medical terminology background and/or coding experience (Preferred)
- 1 year Healthcare and medical record experience (Preferred)
Licenses and Certifications
- Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR) - American Trauma Society (ATS) Certification Examination for Trauma Registrars within 2 Years(Required)
