Job Description
SALARY:
$20.67 - $25.84 per hour
JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, the Tennis Professional provides tennis instruction to individuals and groups, assists in planning and implementing instructional programs, and ensures a positive experience for all participants. This position requires strong communication skills, flexibility in scheduling, and the ability to work effectively with the public.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provide tennis instruction through private lessons and group clinics for players of varying skill levels.
- Assist the Head Tennis Professional in planning, organizing, and directing instructional programs.
- Maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all participants.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding schedules and program details.
- Lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Assist with special events, tournaments, and promotional activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Knowledge of office and administrative practices and procedures.
- Skill in communicating professionally and tactfully with other city employees and the public by oral and written means.
- Skill with organization and attention to detail.
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment utilizing knowledge of the organization's policies.
- Ability to work independently under general instructions.
- Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including but not limited to filing, pulling, seeing, sorting, squatting, standing, stooping, twisting body, typing, walking, and writing.
- Ability to prioritize deadlines and tasks.
- Ability to learn new systems and procedures quickly.
- Ability to plan, organize, monitor, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish unit objectives.
- Ability to work within a set schedule.
- Knowledge of tennis techniques, rules, and instructional methods.
- Skill in teaching and adapting lessons for different ages and skill levels.
- Skill in communicating clearly and professionally with participants and staff.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and flexible hours as required.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service and maintain professionalism.
- Knowledge of tennis program planning and player development strategies.
- Skill in conducting engaging and effective lessons for individuals and groups.
- Ability to manage time effectively and adapt to changing schedules.
- Ability to maintain a positive and professional demeanor in a public-facing role.
- Ability to lift and transport tennis equipment as needed.
Qualifying Education and Experience:
- Experience in playing competitive tennis and/or coaching/teaching is required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must possess strong communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Stringing experience preferred.
- At least two (2) years of competitive tennis experience (competing or teaching) is preferred.
- Experience assisting with tennis program development or event coordination.
