About the team you are joining IATA is committed to achieving net zero CO2 emissions by 2050. In our Sustainability and Economics team we take a holistic approach to this challenge and seek to combine subject matter expertise with a cross-functional approach to leverage on all knowledge within the team. We are a think-tank as well as a do-tank. Net zero for aviation requires a no-stones-unturned approach and IATA must research all options and opportunities to help bring fruition to the suite of solutions from now to 2050 and beyond. To achieve this, the global fuel system must be able to deliver a safe and reliable supply of fuel at competitive prices. The ramp-up of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) within this system is the key driver for our industry to be able to decarbonize, and we also need to ensure maturity of all other solutions related to reduced fuel burn, new energy solutions such as hydrogen or electric, and carbon capture or related technologies and programs. This requires substantial work across the value chain, bringing together stakeholders and industry experts to progress research, trials, validation, and operating specifications. Reporting to the Senior Vice President Sustainability and Chief Economist, you lead a multifaceted team covering all these priorities. You will lead a group of SMEs in fuel supply, pricing, and infrastructure as well as research in the areas of net zero roadmaps, including SAF ramp up, new technologies, life cycle emissions, carbon capture and non-CO2 impacts. We are individually and collectively responsible for the team’s success and expect a sympathetic and collaborative management style with an emphasis on upskilling across the team. What your day would be like Define and lead IATA’s net-zero transition strategy, covering global fuel supply and net zero solutions, in conjunction with the Division’s SVP and colleagues. Produce authoritative research in related fields and advance practical solutions to the market. Work to safeguard airlines’ conventional and sustainable fuel supply at competitive prices. Be an ambassador for IATA across aviation’s net zero stakeholders, including media platforms, to raise the visibility of all aspects related to air transport’s decarbonization. Lead the bi-annual IATA Aviation Energy Forum and drive consensus regarding industry priorities for environmental performance, efficiency, and safety. Lead the team in a cross-functional manner, steer advocacy campaigns, produce and direct our research efforts in these areas, develop and track relevant data, and stay on top developments and new findings from academic and other relevant organizations. Identify needs for specific solutions to real life problems and bottlenecks in support of airlines’ decarbonization, ranging from technology ramp-up to transition enablement. Work to influence and accelerate standardization, harmonization, and commercialization. Identify opportunities or shortfalls in policy setting and propose best practices and corrective solutions. Identify financing challenges and solutions to help drive affordable transition solutions for air transport. Collaborate across stakeholders to generate buy-in, including for joint initiatives and industry level action. Coordinate across IATA divisions on cross-cutting issues such as airport operations and air traffic management, and the implementation of present and future net zero solutions. Provide subject matter leadership for the industry, enhance collaboration, and contribute to regional capacity building. Be a thought leader and provide coaching across teams and individuals.
