Under direct supervision of a Registered Technologist, performs diagnostic procedures for which competency status has been achieved.Major Job Functions
The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:
Operates radiologic/fluoroscopic equipment for which competency status has been achieved to perform specific procedures within the Diagnostic Section of Radiology and/or Interventional Procedural Area
Assesses the patient, reviews the order, chart reason for exam or document pertinent patient complaint
Prepares the patient for procedure, answer any questions, or refer questions to radiologist assigned
Responsible for beginning and ending the procedure in the computer system to ensure proper patient billing for services
Maintains accurate record of patient care
Provides a safe environment including radiation exposure, infection control guidelines and Universal Precautions
Maintains exceptional guest relations skills with patients, visitors, hospital staff and medical staff
Monitors the quality of care based on on-going monitors striving for continuous quality improvement
Students are not allowed to enter ICU units and other critical care areas without a Registered Technologist accompanying them
Student technologists are not to critique and or approve a student’s films/images, this will be done by a senior/Registered Technologist
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
Education and Formal Training:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Currently enrolled in a Radiology Technology Training Program in a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) approved school and must have completed all exam competencies for program required
BLS certified required
Work Experience:
Completed at least 18 months of clinical training through a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) approved school program for Radiology Technology required
If applying for Critical Access Hospital, must have completed 10 months of clinical training (senior student) through a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) approved school program for Radiology Technology required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Demonstrated knowledge in the treatment, care of patients of all ages to include neo-natal, newborns, pediatric, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
Demonstrated technical skills required
Positive interpersonal skills
Verbal and written skills
Good patient care
Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development and understands the range of treatment needed for all age groups
Physical Requirements:
Ability to communicate orally
Manual dexterity and visual acuity
Mobility to assume awkward positions and respond to emergency situations
Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
Ability to bend and lift
Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and carry objects up to 50 pounds
Position may involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
