Position Summary
A H2 Electrician is the intermediate level tradesman who assists the experienced electrician installing the work in the basic tasks of materials handling, jobsite housekeeping, tool and equipment maintenance, simple installations, and general labor. This is a safety sensitive position.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Helps in securing, relocating, and organizing materials, small tools, and equipment from and back to appropriate storage areas.
- Keeps work area clean by collecting and disposing of scrap, excess materials, and refuse.
- Keeps materials and tools clean and organized in an orderly fashion.
- Assists in pulling wire, lifting, hoisting, and positioning materials.
- May operate less complicated hand tools and equipment under direct supervision of a Foreman or more senior electrician.
- Digs trenches by use of hand tools.
- Assists in mounting and strapping.
- May assist more senior personnel in less complicated electrical installations under close supervision.
- Performs other project related duties and assignments as instructed by supervisor.
- DOES NOT WORK ON ENERGIZED CIRCUITS OR EQUIPMENT
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective processes, completion of projects and smooth operation of department.
Qualifications
- Requires basic mechanical aptitude and manual skills. Must be able to work occasional overtime as required.
- Current Apprentice Electrical License, current Driver’s License and must have reliable transportation.
- High School Graduate, GED or equivalent is preferred.
- Requires at least 1 year of experience and demonstrated basic skills at the H1 level.
Skills & Abilities
- Comprehend reading and drawing prints, specifications, and schematics.
- Bend conduit by hand with hand benders.
- Utilize all power tools, saws, threaders, and knockout punches.
- Operate wire tuggers and hydraulic benders.
- Operate all equipment including rental equipment in a safe manner.
- Comprehend and practice safe work procedures as outlined in CEC’s Safety Policy Handbook, Haz-Com Policy, and Lockout/Tagout Policy.
- Operate two handed tools/equipment, cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, and jack hammers.
- Operate company vehicles with both manual and automatic transmission.
- Read and interpret instructional manuals, work site directions, and written instructions.
- Operate and work from mechanical personnel lifts, both electric and gasoline powered.
- Install and make branch wire terminations in junction boxes and panel boards.
- Install and make feeder wire terminations in junction boxes and switch boards.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
May work inside or outside. Possible exposure to hot and cold temperatures, in all-weather elements such as rain, heat, cold and snow. This position also requires work at extreme heights, in areas that are under construction, or in restricted areas such as a switchgear room, manhole, utility tunnel, crawl space, or attic, in confined spaces, and on slippery or uneven surfaces; works on ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, in ditches and excavations; works in and around single and multi-story buildings with all exposures typical of a heavy construction site, including portable sanitary facilities.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull and reach overhead.
- Lift 51 pounds, routinely. Constantly move about on the feet.
- Climb ladders of all types.
- Complete full day assignments involving overhead work.
- Must be able to make transition from employee parking area or street into construction work areas and to access all levels of the building, even if the only means of access is by O.S.H.A. approved site construction ladder or stairs still under construction, but acceptable for use.
- Must be capable of securing tools and materials from storage areas to complete assigned tasks. Possess good vision, normal or corrected.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Possess good hearing, normal or corrected.
- Must be able to positively identify different colors of wiring. Wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest) at all times.
- Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required and night shifts, as needed. This position requires flexible work hours. In order to get a project completed on time, this position may be required to work overtime, weekends, and night shifts.
- Must be able to work in the presence of customers and their representatives with little or no interference or disruption to the customer while maintaining a professional and courteous image.
