What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers competitive pay commensurate with education and experience.  Although the full pay range is posted, the target hiring range is $22.53-$25.50/ hr. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Street Maintenance, a division within the City and County of Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, is responsible for keeping Denver’s streets and alleys safe, clean, and reliable year-round. The division oversees a wide range of essential services, including pothole repair, milling, paving, patching, alley maintenance, and citywide street sweeping. It also operates Denver’s asphalt plant, which produces the materials necessary to resurface and maintain the city’s transportation infrastructure. In addition, Street Maintenance leads Denver’s citywide snow response program, ensuring timely and efficient snow removal to keep roadways accessible during winter weather.

To support these critical operations, the Street Maintenance team is currently hiring Utility Worker II's (full-time and part-time positions). This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the maintenance and improvement of Denver’s streets, alleys, and transportation network while serving the community through all seasons.

As a Utility Worker II you will:

  • Perform semi-skilled and light to heavy physical labor on a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair projects

  • Operation of light weight motorized equipment and hand and power tools

  • Assist with general labor, safety, and related work tasks on a crew with Equipment Operators

  • Patch asphalt and paved areas

  • Place and remove barricades, cones, and other traffic control and safety devices in and around work areas for construction and maintenance projects in accordance with traffic regulation requirements

  • Participate in snow removal duties.

What You’ll Bring

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Knowledge of city of Denver streets/alleys and use of maps

  • Have a valid Driver’s License

  • Willingness to work in inclement weather, road environments, dust, fumes, etc.

  • Desire to follow a career path and promote to other positions within the department, such as Equipment Operator I, Equipment Operator II, etc. (We provide on the job training!)

Applicants for commercial driving positions must demonstrate proficiency in the English language. Commercial drivers must be able to do the following in English:

  • Converse with the general public

  • Understand highway traffic signs and signals

  • Respond to official inquiries

  • Make entries on reports and records

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education Requirement: None

  • Experience Requirement: One (1) year of experience performing unskilled labor work.

  • Education/Experience Equivalency:  Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement

  • License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.

  • Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "B") with appropriate endorsements within six (6) months of employment and must be kept current as a condition of employment.

  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
