Position Overview
The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring the consistent production of high-quality pipe coupling and flow control products that meet internal standards, customer requirements, and regulatory expectations. This role works closely with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and Materials teams to proactively improve product quality, reduce scrap and rework, and enhance process reliability. This position plays a critical role in defect prevention and continuous improvement across the facility.
Primary Responsibilities
Product & Process Quality:
- Monitor and improve manufacturing processes to ensure products meet quality, safety, and performance requirements.
- Investigate nonconformances, lead root cause analyses, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Support new product introductions and process changes to ensure quality requirements are built in from the outset.
Scrap and Defect Reduction:
- Analyze scrap, rework, and defect data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
- Lead initiatives to reduce scrap through process optimization, standardization, and error prevention.
- Partner with Operations to implement sustainable corrective actions.
Mistake-Proofing & Vision Inspection
- Identify and implement mistake-proofing (poka-yoke) solutions to prevent defects at the source.
- Implement, validate, and sustain vision inspection systems to ensure consistent product quality.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Maintenance to maintain inspection system performance.
Method Sheets & Work Instructions
- Develop, review, and maintain method sheets and work instructions to ensure clear, standardized, and repeatable processes.
- Ensure updates are timely, accurate, and effectively communicated to the shop floor.
- Verify that documented methods align with actual practices and quality requirements.
Collaboration & Support
- Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance and Supply Chain to drive quality improvements.
- Collaborate with Global Quality Assurance teams to complete first article inspection requirements and improve measurement techniques and analysis.
- Provide real-time quality support to production teams while reinforcing standards and expectations.
- Participate in cross-functional continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives.
Audits & Compliance
- Support internal and external audits and ensure compliance with applicable quality standards and customer requirements.
- Assist in maintaining quality system documentation and records.
Continuous Improvement
- Promote a culture of quality ownership and accountability at all levels.
- Use data-driven decision-making to prioritize, execute, and measure improvement efforts.
Qualifications
Required
- Hands-on approach with the ability to quickly learn and effectively use tools and equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read drawings, follow work instructions, and use measurement tools.
- Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred
- Engineering degree or equivalent technical degree/certification (e.g., Mechatronics, Automation, Mechanical Systems, Quality Engineering, or related fields).
- Basic CAD experience (AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks) for viewing and understanding drawings.
- Proficient in the use of electronic systems and software (MS Office and/or MiniTab).
Work Environment
This is a manufacturing floor-based role requiring frequent walking, standing, lifting, and hands-on interaction with equipment. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams is essential.
