Senior Technical Project Manager - Operational Excellence

About the role:
We are looking for a highly motivated technology professional to drive Operational Excellence across our technology organisation. This is not a traditional project management role. Success in this role is measured by the ability to influence platform teams, drive accountability, identify improvement opportunities through data, and help engineering organisations improve resilience, reliability, availability and operational maturity.

They should be comfortable working directly with senior technology leaders, challenging the status quo, and using AI and automation to improve productivity and simplify reporting.
This role is suited to individuals coming from Technical Program Management, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Technology Operations, Service Reliability, Engineering Operations, or Operational Excellence backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities
Drive Operational Excellence Across Technology
Partner with platform teams and technology leaders to improve operational performance.
Drive accountability for key operational excellence outcomes across engineering organisations.
Facilitate structured reviews and action tracking across resilience, observability, support experience and operational effectiveness.
Identify recurring operational risks and work with teams to implement sustainable improvements.
Challenge teams constructively and influence prioritisation of operational excellence initiatives.
Data-Driven Performance Management
Analyse operational data to identify trends, risks and improvement opportunities.
Create executive-ready dashboards, scorecards and operational reporting.
Define and track meaningful operational metrics and KPIs.
Translate complex technical information into concise business-focused insights.
Use AI-assisted analysis and automation to improve reporting efficiency and decision making.

What We're Looking For
Essential
8+ years of experience in technology operations, engineering operations, technical program management, site reliability engineering, operational excellence or related fields.
Strong understanding of operational excellence principles in large-scale technology organisations.
Experience working on reliability, observability, resilience, incident management or service operations initiatives.
Proven ability to influence engineering teams and drive change without direct authority.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
Experience presenting to senior technology leaders.
Demonstrated ability to convert insights into measurable improvement outcomes.
Strongly Preferred
Experience building reports or operational metrics.
Experience using AI tools (e.g. Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or similar) to improve productivity, reporting, analysis and operational effectiveness.
Experience automating reporting, workflow or operational processes.
Understanding of cloud platforms, modern application architectures and observability tooling.
Familiarity with SRE principles and operational maturity frameworks.
