Job Description

The Lab Quality Supervisor will primarily be responsible for the operation of the Quality Management Services and the Phlebotomy area of the lab in accordance with the various regulatory and accrediting agencies. This will include the generation of various statistical administrative reports, oversight of quality assurance programs, and accreditation and certification programs, etc. This position will conduct audits and assists the Lab Supervisor and Lab Director with the overall administration of laboratory quality operations. This position will also be responsible for working cooperatively with the hospital wide quality assurance programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

  • Coordinate and manage the laboratory quality assurance (QA) program.
  • Maintains the activities of the laboratory to maintain compliance with the Joint Commission standards and ensures all regulatory requirements are met.
  • Maintains current QA and phlebotomy policy and procedures that are reviewed by the Medical Director initially and annually.
  • Prepares reports as needed in a timely and accurate manner to inform management of the status and implementation plans of programs, services, and quality initiatives.
  • Participates in educational programs to maintain subject matter expertise and to expand management skills.
  • Provides a positive influence on employee motivation by encouraging high-performance standards and by recognizing excellence.
  • Supports and assists in development and maintenance of the Laboratory Information System.
  • Performs duties of technologist as necessitated by absence or peak workload.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information according to HIPAA and company policy.
  • Appropriately adapts assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate the physical, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each person served.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education opportunities including internal and external educational offerings.
  • Utilization of assistive devices for lifting is mandatory.
  • Comply with all safety and health standards, and all rules, regulations, and orders which are applicable to the individual's own position, actions, and conduct.
  • Must adhere to, and promote, safety protocols at all times.
  • This position requires respirator and fit testing. Required testing will be performed on all team members at risk for exposure to airborne infectious diseases, droplet producing procedures, or any caustic chemicals.

  • Per DRH policy, all required conditions of employment must be met and maintained including required vaccinations.

Minimum Qualifications: Communication skills including fluency in oral and written English. Basic computer skills with information technology associated with the position including a familiarity with email, word processing, and spreadsheets. Advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills preferred. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities and to remain flexible to quickly adapt to urgent situations. Ability to effectively multi-task and be self-directed. Ability to adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science from an accredited institution. Advanced degree desirable. At least five (5) years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in the appropriate technical discipline(s) and 2 years supervisory or previous leadership experience preferred.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:  Current medical laboratory scientist certification (ASCP or equivalent). Specialty certification in appropriate discipline desirable. A current valid driver's license and automobile liability insurance must be maintained.
