Pay Range: $20 per hour
This position will help facilitate GEAR UP academic support and early college/career activities, programs, events and services for middle and high schools students in order to increase access to higher education to educationally and economically disadvantaged students; provides lead-level guidance to lower-level GEAR UP staff and may lead the work of student workers. This position must be filled by Academic teachers.
Essential Responsibilities
- Developing appropriate lessons, activities and field trips that includes bi-monthly meetings.
- Collaborate with Program Director, and Counselors to ensure that objectives are reached.
- Maintaining accurate records including attendance sheets, surveys, and staff logs.
- Maintaining an organized and efficient meeting room space.
- Adhering to all Gear Up and district professional expectations and compliance issues.
- Creating a positive, achievement-oriented, organized, and engaging learning environment.
- Motivating and holding students to high academic and behavioral expectations.
- Providing consistent rewards and/or consequences for scholar behavior grounded in positive discipline.
- Empowering students to make positive choices and serving as a role model.
- Being accountable for meeting students’ individual academic and instructional needs.
- Ensuring enrichment and academic goals are met for each scholar.
- Creating and directing project-based learning
- Supervising students during guest speaker engagements, field trips, and scheduled workshops.

- Must be able to articulate and communicate effectively while instructing participants
- Must have a positive attitude and ability to work independently
- Content area expertise
- Ability to identify student learning needs and deliver appropriately
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adjust and adapt instructional strategies.
- Evidence of efficacy and willingness to be a team player
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field
- Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with diverse populations.
- Desire to work with middle school students and their families in under-resourced communities.
- Outstanding verbal, written, and technological (computer/internet) skills.
- Ability to build relationships and influence students, staff, community members & families.
- Demonstrate leadership ability.
- Committed to the goals of the program and approach.
