Position Summary:
The Client is seeking an experienced French–English Translator Consultant to support a short-term evaluation assignment in Madagascar. The Consultant will support real-time interpretation during qualitative data collection activities, including Key Informant Interviews (KIIs). The role requires experience working in evaluation or research contexts and the ability to accurately convey technical and project-related information.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide consecutive interpretation support during KIIs and other interviews with project stakeholders, regulators, private sector representatives, and other relevant actors, as needed.
- Support the evaluation team during interviews by ensuring clear, accurate, and complete communication between interviewers and respondents.
- Assist with clarification of interview notes or review of translated content to ensure accuracy and consistency with original meanings.
- Coordinate closely with evaluation team members to ensure consistent use of terminology and alignment with evaluation objectives.
- Support qualitative data collection activities in a professional and confidential manner.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Native or near-native fluency in French and English.
- Demonstrated experience providing written translation and oral interpretation services.
- Prior experience supporting qualitative data collection, including KIIs, interviews, or similar research activities.
- Experience translating technical, infrastructure, energy, or development-sector materials.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately convey nuance and technical concepts.
- Ability to work independently under a short-term consulting arrangement.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience on IFC-, World Bank-, AfDB-, or USG-financed projects.
- Prior experience supporting monitoring, evaluation, or research projects.
- Familiarity with development finance, infrastructure, or energy-sector projects.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary international teams.
REPORTING REQUIREMENTS
The Consultant will report to the Project Team Leader for technical direction and to the Project Manager for administrative matters.
