This role will be based in the Washington, DC on an in-office basis, with three days per week in DC and one day per week in Northern Virginia. This role reports to the Chief Communications Officer.
Position Summary
The Marketing and Communications Manager will develop and implement communication strategies that reflect and elevate the firm's brand, shape high-impact messaging, and drive proactive media coverage in support of key business goals, with a primary focus on the DC Metro area. The ideal candidate is a strong writer with a client service orientation, the ability to build internal and media relationships, and the ability to consistently deliver under tight deadlines while handling multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities
Partners with the DC and Northern Virginia Managing Shareholders, and Marketing and BD leads, and the Chief Communications Officer to create a proactive communications plan aligned with the DC Metro region, practice and industry groups, and global objectives
Serves as a strategic advisor to office and practice leaders on messaging, reputation management, and communications strategy
Identifies brand-building opportunities for the offices and lawyers through events, civic engagement, thought leadership, and media
Develops content priorities and outreach strategies to build thought leadership via media placements, bylined articles, newsletters, alerts, events, podcasts, and multimedia
Identifies and leverages external PR channels to achieve communications goals
Identifies PR opportunities and risk issues and advises office and practice leaders on communications decisions
Provides media relations support, including pitching, monitoring interviews, and preparing attorneys with talking points
Seeks out opportunities to place attorneys and stories in client-facing media
Manages media outreach and press releases for matter wins and lateral hires in DC Metro and related practices
Creates and repurposes content for external communications across platforms
Writes press releases, internal communications, and media collateral as needed
Supports peer review and publishing of DC/NVA specific blogs, alerts, articles, and podcasts
Plans, researches, and executes awards submissions, and internal and external thought leadership events
Provides strategic and creative support for communications programs; writes and designs collateral for the firm's Intranet, presentations, white papers, and handouts
Drafts targeted social media posts in support of attorneys and practice areas
Assists with attorney social media training
Leverages social media to maximize exposure for firm news and thought leadership
Collaborates with marketing and business professionals across the firm
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Skills & Competencies

Exceptional attention to detail with strong prioritization and time management skills; able to manage multiple competing deadlines under pressure and execute
Client-first orientation with the flexibility to anticipate needs and deliver consistent results
Advanced proficiency in AP Style and English grammar; specialized experience in business and/or legal writing preferred
Tech-savvy and resourceful, with the ability to quickly learn new programs, systems, and AI tools
Education & Prior Experience
Bachelor's degree required
7-10 years of professional experience in PR for a law firm or professional services firm, or as a business/legal journalist
Proven track record of media placements that build thought leadership
Writing portfolio demonstrating the ability to translate complex topics into compelling copy
Strong understanding of the news media landscape with established media relationships
Experience identifying PR risk issues and advising office and practice leaders on communications decisions
Proficiency with Cision or similar PR databases
Experience leveraging social media to maximize exposure
Technology
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
Active knowledge of LinkedIn, Instagram, X, Facebook, and YouTube
Applies hands-on experience using generative AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar platforms) to support professional and managerial tasks, including drafting, summarizing, brainstorming, and organizing content, while applying sound judgment when reviewing AI generated work product and maintaining accountability for all final outputs
Ability to write effective prompts that clearly define objectives, provide relevant context, and guide AI tools to produce useful, accurate, and appropriate results; able to refine prompts to improve output quality, productivity, and efficiency
Models responsible AI use for team members, reinforcing expectations related to confidentiality, data privacy, and appropriate human oversight
Demonstrates working knowledge of governance considerations, including ethical use and risk awareness, and adapts to emerging AI and related technologies
The expected pay range for this position is:
$126,280.25 - $139,565.90 Per Year
Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. Full time employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, health insurance with an optional HSA, short term disability, long term disability, dental insurance, vision care, life insurance, Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, 401K, vacation, sick time, and an employee assistance program.
