About the Opportunity
Driscoll’s is the leading supplier of fresh berries in the world. The Accounting Intern is a core member of the accounting team and performs accounting duties of a basic nature requiring professional experience and knowledge of accounting principles. This role provides accounting expertise and is responsible for a wide range of accounting and related activities as assigned, such as interpreting accounting data, and analyzing reports.Responsibilities
• Responsible for managing activities in collaboration with Corporate Accounting including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Property Accounting and General Accounting to accomplish planned growth.
• Prepare journal entries, maintain ledgers, reconcile and analyze specific general, intercompany and other subsidiary account ledgers.
• Prepare profit and loss variance analysis and supports audit schedules.
• Assist with Driscoll’s compliance reporting requirements.
• Assist with the review, assessment and documentation of internal controls for Driscoll’s processes and procedures.
• Assist in the development and installation of accounting systems, procedures, and controls.
• Ensure that assigned accounting activities are carried out in accordance with established policies and procedures and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Recommend changes to and assist with the documentation and maintenance of business processes, standards and procedures.
• Participate in cross training other Accountants to ensure continued operations in case of absences.
• Performs daily and monthly accounting processes and transactions.
• Calculates month-end accruals. Researches and corrects issues and variances.
• Assists in month-end close and the preparation of month-end deliverables.
• Resolves and escalates issues to management in a timely manner.
• Identifies and executes opportunities for process improvements and acts as a change agent. Identifies areas of risk/exposure and presents/identifies alternative solutions.
• Represents Driscoll’s in an ethical and business-like professional manner in all interactions with growers, co-workers, suppliers, customers and the business community at large.
Candidate Profile
• Working on bachelor’s degree in accounting, Business Administration or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of U.S. General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), best practices, basic accounting terminology and concepts. Experience working with computerized accounting systems. Must have the ability to do detailed work
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, intermediate level required
• Ability to work independently with little supervision, to initiate new ideas, to create new systems, to audit and correct errors, to train others in on-the-job procedures, to communicate clearly and accurately, to assist in the direction, control or planning of an activity, to make generalizations, evaluations, or decisions based on measurable or verifiable criteria, to keep information confidential, to schedule tasks to meet deadlines
• California driver’s license and the ability to be covered under company-sponsored vehicle insurance program.
