Job Summary
The Central Supply Tech plans, organizes, coordinates, and performs inventory control of supplies and equipment related to patient care. Activities include maintenance, sterilization, planning, organizing and evaluating Central Supply and Operating Room needs and the development of policies and procedures based on recommended Central Supply standards.
Qualifications
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Collecting used and contaminated equipment, instruments and supplies for sorting and decontamination.
- Manually cleans supplies and instruments, removes waste matter, decontaminates and disinfects.
- Operates and maintains decontamination equipment.
- Prepares and packs decontaminated supplies for sterilization.
- Monitor and operate all sterilization equipment.
- Examines supplies and equipment meticulously to ensure proper cleaning, sanitization and operation.
- Testing, using manufactures instructions for use, report any issues or problems with the sterilization equipment.
- Sterilizing, preparing, wrapping and organizing equipment into trays for use during surgical procedures.
- Preparing and delivering all necessary equipment and instruments for surgeries, examinations and medical procedures throughout Nantucket Cottage Hospital and Rural Health Care Clinics.
- Maintain records of sterilization procedures, sterilized items, equipment maintenance and supplies.
- Control the inventory, reordering of supplies and checking expiration dates.
- Maintains the cleanliness, neatness and order of Central Supply.
- Ensures that appropriate supplies/equipment is available to patient care units.
- Establishes department goals and objectives in collaboration with the OR Manager
- Works closely with materials management on issues related to supplies equipment and coverage.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform assignments with a minimum of supervision.
- Complete all required education to maintain certification, complete annual competencies for decontamination, endoscope processing, insulation testing, and steam sterilization
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required for the Position
Knowledge of:
- Comprehensive understanding of Medical equipment, supplies and terminology required.
- Working knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques.
- Strong attention to detail, vigilance and meticulous care on the job.
Skills:
- Good judgement and critical thinking skills
- Technical skills and familiarity with sterilization techniques
- Verbal, written, and computer skills are required.
Ability to:
- Manual dexterity and the ability to handle fragile equipment.
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, use back and knees, climb, crawl.
- Lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
Credentials and Experience Required
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Healthcare Sterile Processing Association Registered Central Service Technician Certification preferred.
- One year of related experience preferred.
Special Requirements
- Must be available to work overtime as needed to complete all job duties.
- Must be available to work in the case of a Hospital declared emergency.
