Job Description

ESSENTIAL TASKS

The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class.  Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Engineering Technician-Inspections.

Reviews plans for new developments for compliance with County regulations pertaining to stormwater management, sediment and erosion control, road design and floodplain management.

Generates and maintains records of the review process for new developments.

Receives and responds to public inquiries, requests for service and complaints associated with areas of responsibility; provides information to residents affected by development projects; investigates citizen complaints related to stormwater, floodplain and sediment / erosion control problems in new developments.

Coordinates project information and activities with other County departments, other local / state / federal agencies, as well as contractors, developers, engineers, land surveyors, architects, attorneys, environmental agencies / special interest groups, property owners, and other parties as necessary.

Compiles data for and prepares a variety of reports as required by the department, County and/or regulatory agencies.

Performs general clerical / administrative work as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, attending meetings, entering and retrieving computer data, preparing spreadsheets, copying and filing documents, answering the telephone, etc.

Attends meetings, training, conferences, seminars, etc., as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills.

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION:

Prefer a Bachelor’s degree or education and training equivalent to four years of college education in civil engineering or a closely related field.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

Must possess a valid state driver’s license.

Must possess DHEC Stormwater Plan Reviewer certification or South Carolina Registered Professional Engineers license.

Registered Professional Engineer (PE) designation is desirable.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Requires over four years and up to and including eight years.

Compensation Minimum: $21.70
