Senior Director, Physical Security

Optus is seeking an experienced and strategic security leader to drive the execution and continuous improvement of our enterprise physical security capability. Reporting to the Executive General Manager, Property, Resilience & Security, this role is responsible for protecting people, assets, and critical infrastructure across a diverse national footprint, including corporate offices, retail stores, campuses, data centres, and network facilities.

About the role:

As Senior Director, Physical Security, you will lead the delivery of physical security operations, security technology programs, incident management, and regulatory compliance activities. You will play a critical role in ensuring Optus maintains a strong, risk-based security posture while supporting business objectives across the organisation.  

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading enterprise physical security strategy, frameworks, standards, and operational delivery.
• Overseeing national physical security operations, including the 24/7 Security Operations and Facilities Control Centre.  
• Managing the deployment and lifecycle of access control, CCTV, intrusion detection, and perimeter security systems.
• Driving compliance with critical infrastructure and security regulatory requirements, including SOCI obligations.
• Managing key security vendors and service providers to ensure effective service delivery and governance.
• Partnering across the business to enhance the safety and security of employees, customers, contractors, and assets.

You are a collaborative and commercially minded leader with deep expertise in physical security operations and security systems. You bring experience navigating complex environments, influencing senior stakeholders, and leading teams through evolving security challenges.

You will bring:

• Significant leadership experience in physical security, protective security, or related disciplines.
• Experience within regulated industries, critical infrastructure, or large complex organisations.  
• Strong knowledge of physical security operations, technology, risk management, and compliance frameworks.  
• Proven success managing security incidents, large-scale operations, budgets, and vendor relationships.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, commercial acumen, and people leadership capability.
