Job Summary
An IT Principal Business Analyst provides transformational technology leadership. The role drives business-aligned strategic change within the organization. The focus on this level is strategic. The incumbent must possess expert knowledge of the organization and a comprehensive understanding of emerging technologies, issues, processes, and practices related to the business unit(s) that they support. The goals/assignments for those at this level require the highest level of critical thinking to resolve high-impact, complex and/or enterprise problems, opportunities and challenges. This position is responsible for mentoring, coaching and advising other IT team members and senior IT leaders on best practices of technology enabling business processes. They are charged with influencing the organization to move towards the defined future state, working independently with senior business and IT leaders to adopt change.
The IT Principal Business Analyst will act as a thought leader working directly with the business and leaders within IT to help adopt Duke’s current and future state architectures, including developing strategies, roadmaps, principles, standards, plans, business processes and best practices that align with business objectives. An IT Principal Business Analyst must have the ability to facilitate enterprise-level discussions within and across multiple business units and IT departments.
The IT Principal Business Analyst analyzes the requirements of our business and IT Organization and creates business cases, recommendations, estimates and changes pertaining to the investments, processes, business Information and plans that IT and/or our business should prioritize.
This is the Expert level of the analyst / consultant classification. Employees at this level solve the most complex problems, manage work and provide leadership to specific business units, by consulting on complex designs, platform strategy and system integration decisions. Incumbents are expected to have advanced skills, work independently and have expert level knowledge in how the business units that they support use and get value from technology. They consult on strategic and highly complex projects and challenges. They lead the business case development, identification and recommendation of opportunities for technologies that improve capabilities for our business partners. Progression to this level is very restricted on the basis of business need. Typically, a very limited number or percentage (maximum of 2-3%) of employees, if any, would be classified at this level in any department.
Responsibilities
Consults on development and maintenance of business strategy, planning and technology architecture as it applies to business processes.
Has a leadership role in the review of proposed enterprise system and/or project architecture designs applicable to their area of responsibility to ensure effective integration, extensibility, maintainability and adherence to standards across the technology portfolio. Serves as an escalation point for issues identified in reviews conducted by other IT SME’s for which resolution cannot be reached.
Serves as a top-level contact to provide guidance on enterprise technology standards and design. Serves as an escalation point to assist in the resolution of more complex problems.
Consults with architects, software engineers, data scientists, as well as IT and business management to identify, recommend, implement and adopt opportunities for using existing and emerging technology in ways that transform the business and operations of Duke Energy. Develops and leads the strategy and adoption of transformational technologies that span multiple domains and other business areas as warranted. Leverages industry leading expertise and knowledge to advance and gain approval for business cases that advance strategic technology platforms and architecture.
Develops and maintains awareness of emerging technology trends, best practices and the required technical and business knowledge needed to perform leadership duties. Anticipates internal and external influences that may impact business architecture and consults in the development of action plans to address.
Basic/Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Business, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology, or Other Related Degree
Minimum 15 years related work experience
Desired Qualifications
Working knowledge of Duke Energy processes for the specific processes and technologies supported by the organization.
Experience with PeopleSoft Financials, knowledge of its data model
Experience with AWS data fabric and related technologies
Demonstrated strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
Demonstrated collaboration skills to foster effective working relationships with the team and customers
Demonstrated leadership skills to establish and maintain a motivated and productive staff.
Demonstrated resolution of complex issues ranging from technology to vendor to business issues.
Experience in managing customer relationships
Experience in leading a diverse workforce from multiple sources in various geography such as: employees, contractors, vendor and off shore initiatives. This may be through project, initiatives, or previous management experience
Demonstrated leadership skills in managing financials for project or teams
Working Conditions
Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.
