
Assistant Superintendent
Job Description
Related Midwest, through its vertically integrated general contracting entity, LR Contracting, is seeking a motivated construction professional to support the management and coordination of construction project delivery for large, complex projects or portfolios of smaller projects, including new construction as well as rehabilitation and preservation work.
The Assistant Superintendent is a developing field leadership role responsible for managing defined scopes of work and supporting overall jobsite operations with increased independence. This position builds on foundational field experience and requires the ability to coordinate subcontractors, enforce safety and quality standards, and contribute to short-term planning and schedule execution. The Assistant Superintendent plays an active role in driving daily field performance while continuing to develop leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills in support of successful project execution.
The role requires strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with project teams, field operations, preconstruction staff, consultants, and other project stakeholders while contributing to a respectful, collaborative, and high-performing team culture.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited, to the following:
- Support supervision of daily construction activities and quality control for assigned subcontractors and work areas.
- Coordinate field efforts between trades to support timely project completion in strict accordance with contract documents, safety requirements and project standards.
- Effectively communicate relevant project information to superiors.
- Attend weekly subcontractor and owner/architect meetings.
- Perform daily site walk-throughs.
- Coordinate jurisdictional authorities site visits.
- Monitor site safety protocols.
- Track manpower and complete daily reports.
- Assist with quality control oversight.
- Assist with field office document control.
- Assist with creating look-ahead schedules.
- Monitor and track site deliveries.
- Verify materials, equipment, and installation follow approved submittals and contract documents.
- Assist in resolving field conflicts and constructability issues.
- Contribute to a collaborative and respectful jobsite culture through proactive communication, accountability, and support of field teams and trade partners.
Qualifications
- 5 - 8 years of construction experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent trade experience.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage defined scopes of work including subcontractor coordination, schedule tracking, quality control and daily field operations
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, field logistics, safety practices, and trade coordination.
- Ability to proactively identify and communicate field issues, constructability concerns, and schedule impacts while supporting timely resolution.
- Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to effectively interact with subcontractors, inspectors, consultants, and project teams.
- Proficiency in construction scheduling and project management software including Procore, Bluebeam, Primavera, MS Project, ACC Build, and CM Builder.
Compensation
The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. In addition to a competitive base salary, you will be eligible to receive discretionary bonus incentives and a comprehensive benefits package.
Anticipated base salary range: $75,000 - $115,000
Actual base salary within the anticipated range will be determined by several components including, but not limited to, the individual's experience, skills, qualifications, and market factors.
