Job Description

The Ohio House of Representatives is the lower chamber of the General Assembly. Alongside the Ohio Senate, it forms the legislative branch of the Ohio state government and works alongside the Governor of Ohio to create laws and establish a state budget. Legislative authority and responsibilities of the Ohio House of Representatives include passing bills on public policy matters, setting levels for state spending, raising and lowering taxes, and voting to uphold or override gubernatorial vetoes.

 

Summary of Position: Serves as a front-desk receptionist for all visitors to the House floors in the Riffe.  The work hours for this position are 8:00am to 5:00pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Essential functions include:
1. Greets visitors and notifies legislative staff that visitors arrived
2. Answers and directs telephone calls for legislators and legislative staff and takes messages
3. Provides information to legislators, legislative employees and the general public
4. Works with the Sergeant-at-Arms on floor management issues (e.g., serve as a floor warden, coordinate floor evacuations, consult on security matters on the floor)
5. Controls secured doors for guests
6. Directs all deliveries to the Administrative Office
7. Completes other duties as assigned by the Chief Administrative Officer or Sergeant-at-Arms

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
• Maintains a professional demeanor in any and all circumstances
• Communicates effectively both orally and in writing
• Maintains confidentiality and work in a politically sensitive environment
• Understands basic administrative skills: Outlook, Word, phone transfer etc.


Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma
