Job Description
Job Title: Lead Painter
Reports To: Shop Supervisor
Federal Equipment Company is looking for a Painter. The Painter will be responsible for painting in accordance with MIL-SPEC, customer specifications and company requirements. FEC offers a unique working environment that allows a hands-on individual to develop and grow as the company expands its footprint and maintains high performance as a trusted defense contractor.
Job Summary:The Lead Industrial Painter is a hands-on working lead role, responsible for executing painting and surface preparation tasks while supervising and guiding a team of painters. This role combines technical painting expertise with leadership responsibilities, ensuring projects are completed efficiently, on time, and to the highest quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership and Supervision:
Act as a working lead by performing painting and surface preparation tasks while guiding and mentoring the painting team.
Assign and oversee daily tasks, ensuring timely and accurate completion, and provide hands-on training to develop team skills.
Painting and Preparation Operations:
Perform and oversee surface preparation tasks, including cleaning, sanding, masking, and priming.
Execute and supervise the application of coatings, ensuring proper techniques for primers, paints, and specialized finishes.
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot painting equipment, such as airless sprayers and HVLP systems.
Project Coordination:
Assist in planning and scheduling painting projects, balancing hands-on work with team oversight.
Collaborate with other departments to align workflows and meet project deadlines.
Quality Assurance:
Conduct inspections during and after painting to ensure all surfaces meet company and industry standards.
Address and resolve quality issues promptly while maintaining detailed documentation of work and quality checks.
Safety and Compliance:
Lead by example in adhering to safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and compliance with OSHA standards.
Ensure safe handling of hazardous materials and compliance with environmental regulations.
Communication and Reporting:
Communicate effectively with project managers and stakeholders, providing updates on painting progress and team performance.
Document and report incidents, challenges, and solutions to supervisors as necessary.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
2+ years’ experience preferred.
Ability to read manufacturing drawings.
Experience working with MIL-Specs (military specifications).
US Citizen
Valid Driver’s License
High School Diploma (Preferred) or GED
Ability to read and interpret documents furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, quality manuals and procedure manuals.
Forklift training certificate or the ability to receive it.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to perform simple shop math, convert decimals to fractional equivalents.
Good motor coordination and manual dexterity
occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
While performing this job, the employee is constantly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Employee shall be clean shaven for proper seal fit of respirator protection, and equipment all times while performing painting or blasting.
Note: This position requires access or potential access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information, which is Not Releasable to Foreign Nationals (NOFORN) data. Therefore, to meet NOFORN requirement, you will have to provide proof of US Citizenship and attest that you do not have dual citizenship. Acceptable proof of US Citizenship is a US Passport, US Birth Certificate or Naturalization Certificate.
