Montague County SSA is accepting applications for a Behavior Specialist or Special Education Counselor.
Montague County SSA serves the 7 districts within Montague County, and the SSA office is located in Bowie, Texas.

Primary Purpose
Provide expertise and leadership in the development and implementation of behavior intervention services for students with disabilities across SSA member districts. Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and/or behavior goals/objectives within Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), and support campuses in implementing research-based behavioral strategies in compliance with IDEA, TEA regulations, and local policies. Supervise behavior support personnel and coordinate the delivery of direct and indirect behavior services to improve student outcomes.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Psychology, Counseling, Behavior Analysis, or related field
- Master's degree preferred
- Valid Texas teaching certificate or related licensure (preferred)
- Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification or eligibility preferred
Experience:
- Minimum of three (3) years successful teaching experience required
- Experience working with students exhibiting behavioral and emotional needs in a K�12 setting
- Experience in special education services and compliance preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Assessment & Intervention
- Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) in accordance with federal and state guidelines
- Develop, implement, and monitor Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) based on assessment data
- Assist ARD committees in developing measurable behavioral goals and progress monitoring systems
- Plan and coordinate the delivery of behavior support services, including both direct student interventions and indirect consultation services
Consultation & Collaboration
- Provide consultation to administrators, teachers, and support staff across SSA member districts
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including LSSPs, diagnosticians, counselors, and related service providers
- Support campuses in implementation of MTSS, PBIS, and other behavior support frameworks
Training & Capacity Building
- Design and deliver professional development on behavior management, de-escalation strategies, and evidence-based practices
- Coach staff in the implementation of behavioral interventions with fidelity
- Model effective instructional and behavioral strategies in classroom settings
Supervision
- Supervise and provide direction to behavior support personnel (e.g., behavior interventionists, paraprofessionals, or technicians)
- Monitor implementation of behavior programs to ensure consistency and fidelity across SSA member districts
- Provide feedback, coaching, and performance input for assigned personnel
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all behavior-related services and documentation comply with IDEA, TEA, and SSA procedures
- Maintain accurate records of assessments, interventions, and student progress
- Assist districts in meeting state and federal requirements related to behavior supports
Crisis Intervention
- Provide guidance and support in crisis prevention and intervention
- Train staff in approved de-escalation and intervention techniques consistent with district policy
Program Support
- Assist SSA and member districts in evaluating effectiveness of behavior programs
- Analyze behavioral data and provide recommendations for continuous improvement
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise assigned behavior support personnel and provide input on performance evaluations in accordance with SSA and district policies
