Job Description
MEG is hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer in Urbandale, IA, to lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for moderate to complex projects and support the delivery of larger, high-complexity building projects with limited senior staff oversight. In this role, you will work closely with engineers and consultants to provide project direction, electrical engineering solutions, and client guidance that drive positive project outcomes. You’ll also help manage project budgets, support training and mentoring efforts, and collaborate across teams to meet project goals and client expectations.
Principal Responsibilities
• Lead electrical system design efforts for moderate to complex building projects
• Develop detailed designs, specifications, and calculations using engineering software and tools in accordance with code requirements and IMEG standards
• Perform site assessments and prepare detailed technical analyses and reports
• Partner with clients to define project needs, gather requirements, and communicate technical recommendations clearly
• Build and maintain strong client relationships through professional, responsive communication
• Review electrical designs, calculations, specifications, and project correspondence during production and apply IMEG quality control processes
• Train, mentor, and motivate staff while supporting team development
• Provide technical assistance to help resolve field issues with limited support from senior staff
• Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and electrical engineering best practices, and contribute to research and innovation efforts
• Prioritize safety, identify and mitigate electrical system risks, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions and support interviews and presentations
Required Qualifications and Skills
• Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, required
• Professional Engineer (PE) License required
• 7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
• Adept in the technical aspects of one’s discipline; advanced proficiency in technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles of circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electronics as they relate to electrical systems
• Knowledge of Illumination Engineering Society (IES) Standards and reference material resources such as NFPA Link, TechStreet, MadCAD, and Facility Guideline Institution (FGI)
• Advanced proficiency of Master Specification editing and software such as eSPECS; Proficient with Adobe or Bluebeam Revu
• Ability to mentor, train, motivate, and lead others
• Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise
• Ability to sell work and develop client relationships
• Strong training and mentoring skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Ability to travel up to 20% with occasional overnight stays
