General Ledger and Close Controller is responsible for leading the general ledger function and managing the financial close processes to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting. This role contributes to organizational objectives by maintaining the integrity of financial records, strengthening internal controls, and driving consistency in close activities. The position partners cross-functionally to support high-quality financial reporting and informed business decision-making. This role also leads process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability within the accounting function.

Summary

General Ledger and Close Controller is responsible for leading the general ledger function and managing the financial close processes to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting. This role contributes to organizational objectives by maintaining the integrity of financial records, strengthening internal controls, and driving consistency in close activities. The position partners cross-functionally to support high-quality financial reporting and informed business decision-making. This role also leads process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability within the accounting function.

Primary Duties:

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion of all required activities.
  • Oversee general ledger accounting activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and balance sheet integrity.
  • Review and approve complex accounting entries and analyses, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
  • Ensure financial results are complete and properly recorded in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and internal guidelines.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting, ensuring documentation and compliance with audit requirements.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate accounting for business activities and alignment across departments.
  • Support internal and external audit processes by providing documentation and responding to inquiries.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the close process, improve accuracy, and increase efficiency.
  • Monitor accounting trends, regulatory updates, and business changes to assess impacts on financial reporting processes.
  • Hires, trains, coaches, counsels, and evaluates performance of direct reports.
  • Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Prepare and review financial reports, account analyses, and close metrics for leadership.
  • Ensure proper governance of accounts, reconciliations, and period-end processes.
  • Manage workload prioritization and resource allocation within the accounting function.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies, unusual transactions, and reporting issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline;
  • 8+ years of experience in accounting or finance with direct experience in general ledger and financial close processes,
  • Or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. Certified Public Accountant preferred. Leadership experience preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Deep understanding of general ledger processes and financial close cycles.

  • Frequent use of computer systems for financial analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while performing work tasks.
  • Occasional travel as needed to support business operations.

Work Environment:

  • Perform work primarily in an office environment.
  • Regular interaction with finance, operations, and leadership teams.
  • Occasional exposure to manufacturing environments when supporting site activities.
  • Compliance with all safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Exposure to moderate noise levels when visiting operational facilities.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required in production areas.
  • This role is classified as a Safety Sensitive Position, requiring heightened awareness and adherence to all safety protocols to ensure a secure work environment.
